This is a legit short (positive thing) open-world that adds some new fresh element to the BOTW/TOTK formula, keeping a very strong identity on its own. The overboard alone is worth the ticket, exploration is excellent and relaxing, crafting is not deep but rewarding and combat is surprisingly dynamic. I played also some hours with the demo and I was able to continue my game from there. It has some rough edges here and there on interfaces but I read that the devs are taking care of it, I recommend to play with the gamepad. I'm amazed how a small indie team was able to make this game, they have my full support since indie devs like this are the future of the gaming industry

It's full of surprises, a lot more depth than I expected, really cool and fun. The best part is the surfing, the sensation of velocity is very well done, not only for the tricks you can do on the air but also the abilities you can use (for boost or jumping for example) that makes it engaging and interesting. The map is pretty diverse with the terrain, so it never feels monotone, although some zones are way better than others, given how sometimes you can get stuck on some places. Also, the map it's full of things, collectibles in the form of tapes (for the story), dyes and styles for the hoverboard, photos, etc. The better ones are the "challenges" (basically temples, obvious inspiration on the open-world Zeldas), which are big puzzles to use the manipulating abilities, they are pretty nice (except the designs, they are just flat square holes), and also the music you can find by exploring, so cool. The one thing I don't like, sadly, is the combat, it feels... floaty I guess? there's n...
Star Overdrive is so much bigger than I expected. If you played the demo, just know that it only hints at what the full game has to offer. The world opens up in a major way, with a sense of scale and exploration that really surprised me. The atmosphere is incredible. The soundscape fits the vast and lonely setting perfectly. Put on your headphones and let the original soundtrack pull you in. It completely transforms the experience. The hoverboard riding is a blast. It feels smooth right from the start, but as you upgrade it, it becomes more than just a way to get around. It's a key part of the gameplay and adds a ton of depth. This is a standout indie title. You can feel the care and passion in every part of it. Highly recommended.
Nice game, great visuals and very smooth controls (playing with gameplad). The puzzles are a cool variation and in general I like how the pace of this game constantly changes from super fast races to relaxing moments of puzzles/platforming explotarion. I'll keep playing and I'll update the review once finished. A small great surprise of 2025!
A game that chose to be a meh action fighting game, and a shitty platformer. All of the actual progression of the game is made by zelda like puzzles, all requiring platforming which is something the game does not excel at. The more you progress the more you spend your time platforming. I want to like this game, but it's constantly ruining its own fun. If you want a game that is a fun hoverboard game this isn't it. Most of your time will be spent running around on the ground from resource spot to resource spot, or jumping from rock to rock. Only 18.5% at the time of writing this progressed far enough to encounter and beat the first "boss" fight". For comparison, 15% of Expedition 33 players have played through the entire game and beat the final optional boss. Only 26.9% have completed a time trial. And only 46% have finished the intro. As is, avoid this. No one is playing past the intro, and it just gets worse, not better.
This game has a solid core. But the forced racing and floaty platforming ruin this game for me.
I played the demo some time ago and have been waiting for the full release. At times, it reminds me of the latest Zelda games, but it sets itself apart with one key element: the hoverboard. Traveling through the desert on a hoverboard is already very satisfying, but the ability to customize the board completely won me over. The board’s aesthetics are fantastic and upgrading it as the game progressed made it feel like the hoverboard was truly something I had built myself. Even the combat, which initially seemed quite simple, turned out to be more complex and fun once the powers are unlocked. The experience is more focused on exploration than I expected, but I really appreciated that. The unlockable music is awesome. I mostly played on Steam Deck and the game runs great. It’s definitely worth playing.
i want to like this game, i tried it for a good half hour, the surfing is really fun, and i love the aesthetics, particularly the keyboard sword. but i was disappointed overall, the graphics are fun and stylized, but really blurry, the combat is really clunky, but my biggest issue is actually the lack of ambiance, for the brief time i was playing it, apart from a few short moments it was dead silent, quiet games are fine, look at sable for example, but in this game if you just stop and stand somewhere there's not even really any wind sounds. at this point i would hope for something a bit more polished. if the game got some more love i would be very tempted to pick it up again, but as it stands this one has to be a pass from me.
This is an amazing game from the very start. Once you get used to the controls, the world, the gravity of it all, the world just opens up to you!!! The story had me involved the whole time, the controls are so fun to learn and mix to fit your play style! Too much fun to be had and the music!!!!! UGH THE MUSIC IS SO GOOOOOOOOOD I can't wait for the underground YouTube video essay about this game being an underrated gem that everyone needs to play, but please for the love of god don't let this game go unnoticed!!! If you have the money to play this game youowe it to yourself to sit back and have a fun ride on this wonderous planet!
I'm having an absolute blast with this game, it is so underrated and a true hidden gem of 2025! Graphics is very beautiful, there are views of the planet in this game that made me stand still and stare for minutes, the hoverboard is something completely new and alone deserves to the game a positive review, since It’s becoming increasingly rare that we see new kind of bold gameplay in this kind of bigger "open world"games, no wonder it comes for an indie team. The combat is incredible: at first i was swinging the guitar to damage enemies, then after unlocking 3-4 powers in the story I undestood that I was missing the bigger an funnier part of the game: the ENDLESS amount of stuff you can do with the powers to the enemies, and the huge numbers of way I can resolve a battle, also using the hoverboard as a companion to attack them or distract them. I find myself constantly experimenting with new approaches and having fun with the physics of the game. (I linked a enemy to my hoverboard ...
