Reposting my thoughts from the community discord: "What a fun experience and I could tell there was a lot of heart and work put into everything. My thoughts are a jumbled mess right now, but I did want to jot down a few things I thought about while playing: The pixel art on the environments and overworld sprites are just AMAZING. I couldn't get enough of them. The character portraits sometimes looked a little wonky to me (Rachel surprised face, anyone?) but as the game went on I noticed it bothering me less and less Great music (made me buy the soundtrack!) especially the title screen and battle themes. Bangers abound I would love to see more quiet moments of bonding between the main cast. It feels like so often in the game, characters are afraid to say how they feel (which is fine sometimes, ofc!). The hot spring scene is of course a standout in this regard. I guess what I'm getting at is I'd love to see more on how Johan comes to terms with his very complicated feelings about/for...

Very heartfelt game that blends a touching story with the nostalgic combat reminiscent of classic Final Fantasy games. Loved that it included an LGBT character naturally but without making it the central focus of the game. I do think the advertised six playable characters is a bit of a stretch, feeling that Zach's brief appearance hardly counts. Overall, a great experience. 4.5/5.
I will start by saying I played this on Steam Deck, both docked and handheld as my main issue with the game is how buggy it was. The game is only $20 but I expect more polish even at that price. You cannot save video settings even though the settings have a check box to save the settings. Every time I played on my TV I had to re-set it up. Half the time I started the game up I ended up having to reboot because either the character wouldnt stop walking upwards or the music wouldn't play properly. I don't know if this is a me issue but the battles (at least at the beginning) felt weirdly unbalanced. Every creature kicked my ass and healing at the start is very limited. I have to assume this gets better later on. I did really want to like this game. The story sounds cool, the visuals are great, the music is nice. I know a lot of work went in to this but it felt too much like i was playing something still in early access.
This game was beautifully written with a lot of love. I love how Aiden and Johan's relationship progressed as the story went on. I was rooting for them the entire time. Despite the game having a few glitches and bugs, you can tell the devs put heart and soul into this. The game was decently difficult on Classic mode, but it never felt unfair or a slog to beat all content in the game.
good game. HOWEVER, retro games I much prefer to play on console. I'm still waiting for a Switch port to buy it again and play it to the end.
One of the best rpgs ive ever played, can't wait for the directors cut! :)
The cover art makes this game seem like another common amateur jrpg, but the actual quality and gameplay of Beloved Rapture is easily top tier and comparable to classics like Chrono Trigger. There are however some UI and audio bugs (on Steam Deck) but nothing game breaking. If you love the genre then you need to have this game in your library.
