About This Game

Game Cycle is a faux retro shareware collection with story elements!

As a recently-contracted games analyst, you are tasked by the CEO of Best Value Games to make sure the games set to be included in their upcoming release are up to code. You can get the job done by playing each game for a few minutes, or you could be thorough and try for bonus pay by completing every objective on the checklist.

After your work for the day is done, you can go right to sleep and wait for tomorrow.

You did just move into this neighborhood, though.
Why not go down to the hot tub and chill out for a bit? Maybe get to know some of the people that live close by?

Are you up to the task?

◉ Re-discover the bygone era of shareware CD-ROMs!

◉ Play over TWENTY games! (of varying quality)

◉ Complete objectives for each game...or do the bare minimum!

◉ Chill out in a hot tub and have a moment to relax!

◉ Learn about your neighbors as they talk your ears off!

◉ There are multiple endings depending on what you do!

First off, I'd like to say I enjoyed playing this game. It's short and sweet, has a certain charm, and I had a good time. That being said, here's a review of every single mini-game on the computer from the point of view of the main character. Memory Match: A simple memory match game. And by simple, I mean SIMPLE. The images are near visual gibberish. Challenge Completion: I had to take a photo of each square to complete the first puzzle flawlessly. Overall: 3/10 Greenway Mini Golf: Oh, cool; a videogame! This time we're on the green, shouting "Fore!" and all that other stuff golfers do. Fun little game. Challenge Completion: Getting under the total par wasn't a big deal, but getting inside the castle, as far as I can tell, is impossible. I've tried it from multiple angles, and it isn't budging. Overall: 7/10 Ship It Like The Mailman: Are you ready for suffering? Because that's all this game has to offer you. Complete with touchy controls, unforgiving lives, unfair difficulty, and ...

ENG: Basically we have 20 days to try 20 little games, which are mostly Windows 95/98 style arcade games. It has some interesting stuff and may cause nostalgia in some old guy over 30 like me. I'm not going to review each game, in the trailer you can appreciate them well, although I have to mention that Cowboy Lance seemed to me the best one. Recommended if you see it cheap.

My family got a fancy PC in 1993, which came with a stack of cool Aztech shareware discs. I played through a ton of the games over the years, always noticing the lone individuals credited and the registration information. Although I never did register any of those games, they really stuck with me. Hugo's House of Horrors, Corn Cob, The Last Half of Darkness, and hundreds of other small, independently developed games shaped my earliest experiences on a computer. This nostalgia piece really struck home. Like any real shareware disc, some games are better than others, but most were engaging enough to get me pushing for the optional achievements. While Cowboy Lance was easily the most entertaining, I enjoyed wrapping my head around Fifty Zeros and getting wrecked by Hunger Strike. Feel free to ignore the unfocused hot tub story sequences, but stay for the dev's understanding of what made shareware discs so cool!
