About This Game
Geneforge is an Indie fantasy role-playing game, the first game in the five-part Geneforge Saga. It features an enormous world, the ability to create your own army of lethal, totally obedient creatures, and a cunning enemy AI with foes who can go on patrols, stalk you, and run for help.
Geneforge has a huge and open storyline. You have the freedom to choose your own path and decide how the story will turn out. You can fight the evil overlord or you can join him. You can help the peasants or you can torment them. You can be the bold hero or you can just try to get away. No matter what you choose, Geneforge offers an enormous adventure with plenty of replay value.

One of the only games i have played consistently since i was like 12. Found it back in the day on RealArcade and haven't put it down since. It's a top down, turn based (only in combat tho) strategy game, where you create creatures to help you as you traverse a land forgotten by the Shapers, the magic wielding overlords of all classes. You'll traverse Sucia and decide if you want to help the Shapers and stay true to your upbringing and economic class, or help the oppressed who just want to be equals, or even the rebels who want to take down the Shapers. Your decisions WILL decide how people react, talk to, and treat you, so there's lots of variety as far as each playthrough being different. The island and areas you can explore are HUGE, with MANY secrets to be found, main quests as well as side quests, and NPCs, both friendly and hostile. I can't really think of any games to compare it to, it truly is a unique experience you'll just have to try for yourself! The ONLY complaint i have, ...
I went on a classic crpg buying spree years ago but am only now playing the geneforge series. I played a whole lot of the dev's other series of games. They are fun and highly nostalgic games that, if you really dig the old school style, will provide literally hundreds of hours of play time in a single run of the game. That being said, I use linux to play this and it's just hurting with bugs. If I max the resolution with the game resolution tool its unplayable, I can't move my cursor anywhere and there's no option to use keyboard-only to navigate menus (that I can discern). Furthermore, I just loaded a save and the gfx totally glitched to the point of non-playability. If I could, I would return the game, but its far too late. If I play the game at native res (so, like, 40% of my laptop's screen size), it is seemingly playable. Some saves seem to lo load ok. If they fixed these bugs I'd give it a rec.
strategy game at its finest love the summoning and balance of skills
