Best indie game I have ever played. I played it on the DS originally, and have played it on multiple different gaming consoles since.
The definition of classic indie game. Between my 50hrs and multiple playthroughs on multiple devices, i love this game
the game has enough positive review that mine wouldn't hurt its reputation. the game is not bad overall. cute graphics, soundtrack and story, and average controls. metroidvania aspects of the game are minimal and the sense of exploration is lacking, though I guess it could be considered a metroid-like. but man, that final sequence is torturous. other levels and bosses in the game are not difficult at all, so I was surprised to see many people complaining about the difficulty, until I got to the final boss. it just wasn't a pleasant experience.
Aside from slightly frustrating jumping physics, some sections with sparse checkpoints and a clunky (although short) water level, Cave Story features great combat, shooting feedback, pixel art, level design and narrative... not to mention secrets and alternate endings! 20 years later, this classic remains a great recommendation. Just a heads-up: unfortunately, by the time of this review, the achievement Kings of Power is bugged. You can't get it.
Every night that I think about Mimiga Mask Curly my pantaloons get unbelievably warm and sticky. oh lAwd
Amazing. Best game ever. I grew up playing it on the wii. I decided to buy it to relive some of those memories, and it did not disappoint. I only have 44 steam hour, but there will be hundreds more coming. 10/10 great buy.
One of the first metroidvania's I ever played. Charming.
Good game
Spoiler warning, I will mention specific parts of the game! Great game really enjoy it, some parts were difficult (Ballos) I really liked the endings, storytelling, combat, systems and mechanics, I feel like Ballos didnt have any buildup, but that was because he was added very late into devolpment after the testers wanted a harder challenge, overall, one of my top ten games and an absoulute masterpiece, side note, the true ending felt a little unfair to get to without a guide so I would reccomend finding one if you want to do it. Thanks for reading :)
