Super fun game, but would not recommend it in it's current state. A lot of words do not work. Some of the words the enemies use are complete nonsense (not found in dictionary or scrabble dictionary). Many settings changes do not work, for example, there is an option for windowed mode, but when you try to apply the setting it just restarts the game in fullscreen. Just enough small issues that add up and make me wish I did not spend money on the early access version. Hoping the full game fixes all the small issues and I can edit this review!

Don't waste your money. The last update for this game was just under 1 year ago and there seems to be no indication that this will ever get out of early access. It had promise, but poor mechanics, a terrible dictionary of acceptable words and lack of commitment by the game devs should hopefully be enough to stop anyone else wasting money on this. This "game" embodies the worst parts of Early access.
This game could be a lot of fun, but it's ruined by whatever 'dictionary' the AI is pulling words from. The AI consistently plays nonsense words that simply don't mean anything in English. Some matches the majority of the AI's plays are nonsense, technical jargon, or non-English words that I have literally never seen before. It's one thing to allow for commonly used Latin words or other foreign words that regularly appear in English, but in the last match I played the AI used 'vulgo' and then immediately followed it up with 'jnana'. To top it off, after the match I was presented with a list of difficulty increasing modifiers to choose from - one of which was 'radically expand the diction of the AI'. I mean... it just pulled 'jnana' out of thin air. What could expanding the diction possibly even mean at that point? Unless and until the AI dictionary gets reworked, I have to say that the game isn't worth playing.
It feels too early even for early access. I don't mind the price, but it is a bit high. My biggest issue with the game is that it crashes to desktop everytime I defeat the final boss. The other issue is the source of words is inadequate. Far too many words are rejected by the game.
I LOVE this game. Exactly what you expect it to be: a roguelike scrabble. Features some great art for the different characters and ability icons. I def recommend it for anyone looking for a fun and replayable word game. (Side note: The only other review at the time of my writing mentions game crashes: I didn't have any crashes or issues whatsoever during my multiple runs so far. *shrug*)
I reccommend this game for three reasons. 1. it has enough characters and spaces on the board for variance. I like that you or enemies can put words onto the board. The board is what it's all about, the letters just are a vehicle to different parts of it. 2. The game has enough enemies and scaling curses to keep things interesting. I really enjoyed the everloving out of finally reaching a final boss and crushing them. 3. There is more content planned and I hope part of that content? is making the floors differ the higher you go. I think having more challenging or dangerous things on the board the higher you go, would be amazing. Try and push opponents into having only the choice of writing on a buzzsaw trap, or some sort of spear trap that deals ten for building over it would be phenomenal. I am only mad for one reason. Reynards is not a word. Many names the AI will just whip onto the board and it upsets me because names I attempt to throw onto the board will not work.
This is a great game and I truly enjoy playing it.I find it challenging at every level of play.
Fun game. The dictionary is a bit weird, and the characters are not balanced, but the loop is enjoyable. Good support from the dev.
After working with the developers and a few small updates, the crashing is no longer an issue. As that was my only (albeit major) complaint, I am updating my review to a definite recommendation. It's not a perfect game by any means, but it's got good bones and I look forward to its continued development. ----------------------------------------- Old Review ----------------------------------------- The UI smells of a 'mobile first' development cycle, but the premise is wonderful and the art is superb. The price is slightly high for the current content. There are some minor bugs here and there, mainly involving the mouse moving both your tile and the board simultaneously. All things considered, it would still be a thumbs up were it not for one thing: I have crashed to desktop every single run. There is no discernible rhyme or reason to the crashes, and I refuse to join yet another discord server for support.
