I finally finished the game on Hard difficulty PROS The game itself is really fun and does what it sets out to do well. On their own, most enemies felt fun to have to dodge their projectiles, especially cultists, their bulllets were just slow enough to be able to dodge out of the way if you were careful The soundtrack and art design were great. They really did an amazing job with making the retro graphics look as good as possible CONS The more I played it though, it quickly turned into a major slog. Especially in the 2nd and 3rd chapters, everything began to seriously overstay its welcome. Everything from the greater daemon fights to the sorcerer to every single different type of enemy, just was repeated over and over again until killing them felt like annoying chores. At some point in Chapter 2, I started saving in the middle of fights so that I wouldn't need to go back if I died - I feel like that's a sign that the game is too much of a slog. Purges in particular went from an excitin...

The gore and violence levels are there, but the rest isn't. Environments are uninspired and repetitive, and the "purge" sections felt a little too frequent. You shouldn't be bored in a 40K-themed shooter.
This game is just boring. Unless you are some turbo fan of the warhammer 40k, skip. It is rather unfortunate to leave a negative review here, as this game does have the correct fundamentals. The visuals are very good, and with the combination of SFX and subtle animations they have really sold the feeling of being in a heavy space marine suit. However, this game really struggles to engage the player. Weapons feel underwhelming in damage which leads to a lot of the enemies feeling tanky. I guess on the flip side means that the titular boltgun is decent. Of the seven weapons I have seen, only like 3 felt decent, and one of them was severely crippled by its ammo count. Being crippled by ammo count is a running theme for most weapons, most of them have low capacity and rare ammo, especially ones that are actually good. The combination of enemies being tanky and you being significantly limited by ammo turns this into a methodical shooter, which, imo, completely ruins the whole premise of b...
It gets stale pretty quick. Same enemies, bullet sponge (feels like you meet a brick wall when you are shooting at the enemies, it stops the pace), the levels are too long and it is always the same layout. You find keys and clear waves in arena rooms, before you meet a very tanky boss/miniboss. You have pretty much seen everything after act 1. The weapons feel good to use and I like the pixel-art. Cool lore.
Its okay, but its just nearly the exact same thing over and over again and has flaws.
Way too much visual clutter results in poor feedback to the player Graphics look good in screenshots but feel mid when actually playing Mechanics and gunplay feel far behind other neo boomershooters and implement newer mechanics well Arenas feel crowded and the lack of traversal makes their design feel unnecessary A 7/10 game, made worse by the fact it feels like another 40K cash grab propped up by their fandom who don’t normally play boomershooters. If you care more about a good retro FPS than another 40K themed game, your money is much better spent elsewhere
Boomer shooter done wrong. Feels like a basic FPS template from a free game engine with bunch of Warhammer 40,000 sprites inside.
There are so many boomer shooters these days. If you want a warhammer 40k ultrakill knockoff, get it. It's really well made. Otherwise, just get ultrakill.
If you heretic too hard, the Emperor will send you his special Missionary.
As a Doom fan after watching the trailer I thought this game was for me, sadly it bored me after a couple of levels. Today I gave it a last try but nope... The gameplay is repetitive and the enemy animations are so poor that it's simply a showstopper for me. Would not recommend this game.
