About the Game
Embrace mind-blowing moments as you’re pulled deep into the many worlds of Split Fiction, a boundary-pushing co-op action adventure from the studio behind 2021 Game of the Year Winner, It Takes Two. Mio and Zoe are contrasting writers – one writes sci-fi and the other writes fantasy – who become trapped in their own stories after being hooked up to a machine designed to steal their creative ideas. They’ll have to rely on each other to break free with their memories in-tact, working together to master a variety of abilities and overcome diverse challenges while jumping between sci-fi and fantasy worlds in this unexpected tale of friendship.Split Fiction is a unique action-adventure experience that keeps you on the edge of your couch with unexpected moments. One minute you’re taming adorable dragons and the next you’re fighting as cyber ninjas, escaping terrifying trolls, or dodging hover cars thrown by a robotic parking attendant. It’s weird, it’s wild, and it’s designed to be shared.
Grab your co-op partner and get ready to overcome any obstacle thrown your way.

Probably halfway through the game but that is enough for me to say this has insanely fun and constantly varied gameplay scenarios and looks amazing too. The main characters are annoying af and I wish they'd stfu completely. Thankfully cutscenes are minimal otherwise I'd have bailed coz I can't stand them at all lmao. But yeah, apart from that perosnal nitpick aside, a huge thumbsup from me. I had high expectations but it surpassed them.
Common Hazelight W. 10/10 co-op experience. Each level is incredibly unique and the use of tropes from both the sci-fi and fantasy genres is very well done. The gameplay is so smooth that at times you and your friend are doing such incredibly fast, intricate manoeuvres in tandem and in sync with each other that you're almost surprised you're pulling it off. As was the case with every game from this studio there really isn't a single second you're not having fun. PS: Need a sequel of this with a horror writer and like a children's book writer so that half the levels are dark and terrifying and the other half are bright and silly.
As with It Takes Two, I played this local co-op with my daughter. For the first third, we thought it was mediocre; for the middle third, we thought comparable to It Takes Two; for the last third, giant dumb grins on our faces and "NO WAY!" "My brain hurts!" throughout. I narrative frame is worse (in my view much worse) than It Takes Two, in part because the characters don't feel plausible (a fantasy author who knows nothing about scifi and vice versa? genre writers who are utterly genre-unsavvy as to their own predicament?) and in part because the lack of a preexisting relationship makes the bickering feel forced and the stakes wrong. From the outset it's clear the story is a parable about generative AI, but what's odd is that the premise that you're going through stories written by the two human authors undermines the theme because those stories are so formulaic and the visuals are lifted so explicitly from preexisting works (many of the fantasy scenes are deliberate callbacks t...
"Facing life's adversities, no matter the scale, together. <3"
Hands down, the best co-op game I have ever played. This is one you definitely want to enjoy with a person who's close to you - a friend, a loved one, a family member, etc. The creativity at Hazelight really shines through in every section of this game. You'll be constantly in awe of how quickly set pieces can change, how quickly environments can morph into completely different ones, and how seamlessly it all happens. The story is also mature and sweet - showing two people becoming friends even though they initially couldn't be more different. If you and your playing partner are living busy lives though, this game might take a while to finish. Took me and my best friend around a month or two in total and that's the only nitpick I have about it. Overall, pretty happy with the experience we had! 9/10 <3
The best cooperative game since Army of Two (and even better). It's a blast, and you only need one copy for two players. The sheer number of mechanics is mind-blowing. For me, it's a GotY!
What a fantastic and fun game. This was my first couch coop game, I never played anything like this before. I was surprised and in awe of the creativity and execution of all the diverse mechanics and how they were integrated in the environment. The game was clearly inspired by a lot of your favorite games, it picked the best and most fun things you already know from other games, mixed it up, added its own spices and cooked something entirely unique. The game has an interesting and heartwarming story inbedded in spectacular visual design, fun gameplay and humour. I had such a blast with this game that I want to continue my journey with "It takes Two". If you're looking for a two player coop game that has you on the edge of your seat, is never boring and stuns with its creativity, look no further. 10/10 game.
A game that I enjoyed playing after years. 10/10. Thank you Hazelight Team for creating such an amazing game. <3
