About This Game

Pax Augusta Out Now

🎉 Pax Augusta is out – and this is just the beginning!

After seven years of solo development, Pax Augusta is finally available – and your feedback has been nothing short of incredible! 🏛️

A truly humbling moment: German magazine GameStar writes that Pax Augusta “sets the bar surprisingly high for Anno 117”. High praise – especially for an indie game made by one person!

This success was made possible by a strong partnership based on trust, passion, and clear roles: Swiss developer Roger Gassmann created the entire game by himself. Publishing support came from Senatis, whose founder was directly involved in the original marketing of the legendary strategy titles Anno 1602 and Anno 1503. That experience helped bring Pax Augusta to the right audience without interfering with the creative process.

💡 What’s next?
The release marks a major milestone – but it’s far from the end. Roger is carefully listening to the community, already working on improvements and quality-of-life updates. First patches are coming soon to refine the experience and fix early issues.

Thank you for your support – and enjoy building your Roman cities!

About the Game

Pax Augusta - The ultimate ancient city-building simulation

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the Roman Empire and build your own ancient metropolis! Pax Augusta is probably the most authentic city-building simulation set in the ancient world and puts you in the role of an ambitious governor who builds new cities along the Roman borders.

While Emperor Augustus expands the borders of the empire, capable governors are sought to found new cities in order to consolidate the Roman claim to the newly conquered land. You build a small settlement along a newly constructed imperial road. You attract new inhabitants to the city by building a harbor and a forum.

As your tax revenue increases, you start to mine raw materials and construct new buildings to meet the needs of the population. Baths, theaters, gladiator schools, slave markets, and more serve not only to keep your inhabitants entertained, but also to provide them with work.

Build impressive city districts, ensure the well-being of your citizens, engage in flourishing trade and erect magnificent monuments that will last for centuries. But the road to the top is full of challenges - fire, corruption, unrest and the whims of the emperor will put your leadership skills to the test time and again.

As a skillful governor, you will quickly attract the attention of the senate or the emperor. Increase your reputation enough and you can found new settlements. As you increase your private fortune, you will eventually be able to afford to apply for new offices. This gives you the opportunity to build monuments and unlock new building sites.

Will you become a skillful administrator and make your city flourish? Or will you fail and be deposed by the Senate?

Your skill will decide your fate in the most powerful empire of the ancient world!

 Authentic urban planning in antiquity

  • Historically accurate architecture: Numerous buildings are based on real-life models and have been recreated with meticulous accuracy. Many of these buildings can still be seen as ruins today!

  • Experience the construction of a Roman city: Build residential areas, market squares, temples, forums, thermal baths and much more - each building fulfills an important purpose for city life.

  • Fluid growth mechanics: Your city grows organically with its challenges. From a small outpost to a vibrant metropolis - every decision counts!

Challenges and dangers

  • Trade: Sign trade agreements so that your citizens have enough food and building materials. But don't just rely on a few unreliable trading partners.

  • Natural disasters and crises: Fire breaks out, buildings can collapse and diseases spread - only a wise governor can lead his city safely through any crisis.

  • Political power games: Benevolent, profligate or capricious emperors have a great influence on your office as governor. Some grant you privileges, others put you to the test - will you win their trust?

Large, detailed game world

  • Expand to the northern borders of the empire: colonize the wild regions of Gaul and Germania along the new Roman trade routes.

  • Dynamic trade mechanics: Import marble for magnificent temples, export goods and control trade routes for maximum profit.

  • Diverse building options: From simple farms to monumental arenas - build your city the way you like it.

Sandbox and story mode

  • Sandbox mode: Create your perfect Roman city completely freely - without restrictions!

  • Story campaign: Experience a gripping campaign inspired by the historical writings of the Roman historian Tacitus. Will you be able to hold your own in the harsh world of Roman politics?

  • Strategic challenges: Decide on the economy, politics and urban development to find the ideal balance between prosperity and stability.

Are you ready to build your own Roman empire?

I hate games that tell me where I have to place my buildings.

While bugs do pop up, like saves disappearing, they are dealt with promptly by the creator. I've long had an interest in Roman history and I find gives what I consider a good representation of a Roman city and importantly it is not too hard to get a basic balance of money at the start.

If you value your free time, be warned—this game is dangerously addictive. I’ve played nearly every Roman city-building title since the Caesar series, but this one… this one truly stands out. It captures everything: the depth of Roman society, the authenticity of the architecture, and the historical accuracy of urban planning. Everything feels spot-on. My only wish would be for more options to beautify the city—additional gardens and decorative elements would make it even better.

Authentically accurate but not the easiest play interface. There should be a simpler playing mode and some features do not work as advertised like the city building feature where houses grow and transform when they have sufficient levels and a variety of food sources.

I want to love this game, but there are too many bugs and my saves won't load.

The game is excellent in concept and and much of its design, but in its current state, it's impossible to have fun playing. My saves don't work, the game crashes when accessing the map, and I lose the city in the same way as if I haven't saved (the whole city dissapear). Please, before adding more content, fix these extremely annoying bugs that many basic games don't have!
