Between Two Worlds

Honestly, I didn't get through the game, and doubt that I ever will. It's rare that I would still recommend a game that I couldn't get through, but I know like 99.9% of everybody that plays the game won't even notice my issue. But that's putting the cart before the horse. Between Two Worlds is a great concept for a game. Without spoiling things, you play as a male protagonist. You're in a monogamous relationship, and have a bunch of friends that play (copyright free) tabletop D&D. Shit goes sideways, and then they are dragged into the D&D world to fight for their lives. Before you travel between worlds, the MC's D&D character is a pervert that seduces everyone he meets in order to succeed at quests. Also, before the flip of the worlds, the MC and his girlfriend are building a harem. However, once you flip worlds, the MC becomes a noble mage that won't flirt in front of his girlfriend. This isn't what I was suspecting when I got the game. When I got it, I thought that the our world and a D&D world would combined and we see the MC gain powers and a good witch/goddess and an evil witch/goddess would try and convince the MC to go to their side. But in this story, we only have one world where the MC and his friends plays D&D and see cut scenes where we see the game being played out. We only see the evil goddess a few times, where she promises to give the MC powers to break the seal that's traps her in a book. But half way through chapter 5 and still no powers. The only 'evil acts' you do is 'in-game' and they aren't really what you would call evil. And the so called choices means very little in the real life, or from what I've seen so far, means nothing. Top tier in it's genre. Yeah, it's steamy and a little kinky, but deliciously so. The writing is very good and the story well thought out. It's funny but still emotional. Generally somewhat predictable, but really fun to play... more than a few times! There are alternate paths to explore the 2nd, 3rd or even 4th time through. The visuals and anims aren't quite on par with some of the biggest studios (NLT, for example), but very close when it matters. This is not NTS or NTR stuff. The emotional attachment is warm and heartfelt, nothing degrading or manipulative. It feels good. And honestly, they should have lit up the focus to expand this going forward with these same characters... maybe 18 years or so later, with flashbacks and the uninhibited good-trouble causing offspring sure to come out of these first unions. But we'll see how close they get with what's in production already first. It may be a worthy follow up with a different set of characters. Between this title and Bare Witnes...

considering how drawn-out it was - rather anticlimactic ending

Typical romantic harem/girlfriend stuff with irreleveant boring RPG story and both aspects mediocre at best. in the end this game will not be in your "good VN pile" You will uninstall and forget it.

Excellent: well-written Characters and Storyline. Well worth playing

Just finished BTW tonight and I really enjoyed it. From an AVN perspective, it reminded me of Eternum in terms of the quality of the story that really captivated my interest. From story perspective, it reminded me of the Guardians of the Flame series of novels, where a gaming group gets pulled into their game. Music/ambient noises were good but not distracting, and I thought the animations were well done, although the h-scenes used less of them than Eternum and more static renders; that's not a complaint, just an observation as others may dislike that more. I'll definitely have to do an Evil run at some point in the future to see what's different in those scenes. Definitely recommend this if you like AVNs.
