About This Game

This boarding school for supernaturals isn't hell, but it is on top of it! Can you make peace between the vampire and werewolf students, close the portal to hell, and save the world?

Paranormal Preparatory School is a 340,000-word interactive comedic dark fantasy novel by David Spain. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

You're the only mortal human student at Cavalcade Academy, a school for supernatural beings. Zombies, werewolves, vampires, and more live and study within its ivy-clad walls. Centuries of hatred between vampires and werewolves have led to deep divides between the two species, and this school is the latest battleground. Your eldritch magic powers will be essential to earn the respect of your peers.

With the opening of the elite St. Mary’s Academy next door--a private school full of pampered, privileged mortal humans--your fellow supernatural students will face their first interaction with humanity. Your school’s reputation is at stake, to say nothing of what the wealthy upper-class St. Mary’s students will think of their paranormal neighbors!

And now, as a portal to hell opens beneath Cavalcade Academy, you’ll need to ally with vampires, werewolves, humans, a ghost, and a cyborg zombie to close it. Make the wrong decisions, and it could mean the end of you, your classmates, and perhaps even the entire world.

Oh, and don’t forget to study for your math exam!

  • Play as male, female, or nonbinary; gay, straight, bi, asexual, or poly
  • Choose a side in a centuries–old feud: ally with the vampire clan or werewolf pack; or try to heal the rift between them.
  • Save the world from the encroaching flames of hell that rise through the portal near your school.
  • Help your classmates promote undead rights--or flee back to the mortal realm.
  • Infiltrate the elite neighboring school to discover the origin of your frightening visions.
  • Accept a vampire’s kiss, return a werewolf’s passion, or transcend the boundaries of death to love a zombie.

It’s the end of the world. Don’t be late for class!

Saddly this is a no. You are treated to being mistreated, stuck with characters in situations you'ld honestly rather not be in, and it all together makes you feel disinterested. There is no motivation for your character to want to follow the plot. In a word its just not fun. On the positive side for those who complain a lot about stats not meaning anything and not being able to tell what choices use what stat, this story telegraphs that information from a mile away. To the point where the choices feel robotic and you just choose based on what "stats" you like and have built up. Honestly, as you can see from my play time I havnt even bothered to finish a single play through. The story killed my interest that quickly. As always YMMV.

I want to like this book but it ends up being a lot of supernatural babysitting while you're shit on and left wondering why you're even in that position. You can focus on building up a romance/friendship with one of the vampires or werewolves, make ONE wrong skill check, and then that same person who supposedly has feelings for you will turn to you like you're the dumbest motherfucker they've ever met and make sure you know it too. If this game played out over some more time, or gave some more downtime to connect with NPC's before the main objective crops up over the course of a single night then maybe it'd allow room to actually like these people. Instead you're left with everything moving incredibly quickly right off the bat and navigating this plot while everyone essentially hates you except for maybe Michelle. It's not unrealistic because people don't get along right away, especially not with such a storied history between species, but the game expects you to be able to bring peo...

Every single choice is a skill check. Choices do not matter.

I didn't think that it would be possible to make a story about a magical school filled with supernatural creatures with a portal to hell soon to be opening up boring, but the creator of this one pulled it off. I would stay away from this one.

The story is basically Twilight meets Harry Potter, with a dash of Lovecraft magic. It would have potential for a good story, but things move too fast and some things do not make sense. The school is billed as a school for the undead, only werewolves are not the undead nor immortal. The writing seems to imply that there is a town nearby with a pub, yet it is never really mentioned other than the start or in passing. And for a school for humans to be so close and next door, one would of thought that it would of been mentioned at the start and not just dropped in randomly. There are barely any classes beyond the gym class with the volley ball scene. Everything beyond that is just generic teenage drama. For all the stats offered, I get the sense that none of them can possibly get to 100 percent. A few don't even seem to become affected over time. Some hints in the dialogue and choices are too vague to tell which stat it is referring to, such as one question surrounding strength...

If you're looking for a good story, then this has it in spades. You will be hooked, pulled into the world, and thoroughly enjoy your time spent on this. I really enjoyed the world the author has built, I love the idea of a paranormal/supernatural boarding school, and was really impressed by the way the author managed to squeeze in world building between sarcastic commentary, stupid school antics, and threats to you and your classmates lives. I really enjoyed the subtle politics that would be behind the undead and humans trying to coexist and it never pushed the story or the characters out of the way. I really enjoyed the plot; the whole portal to hell is a good read, and this had a unique twist on it that really made it worth using what could be considered a cliche. The writing is excellent, and it keeps you hooked, you're pulled into the story, the world, as you read and make choices. Speaking of choices, there were plenty to keep you involved, and though you need to keep an eye on yo...

Interesting story. Stat matter but it is not hard to figure out. Characters are interesting and well developed.

I enjoyed this game. The premise is interesting and I liked the writing style, which can tend a bit toward the snarky/sarcastic at times. I ended up appreciating the characters as well: it takes work to make the other students like your character, but it's rewarding when you do manage to get to know them. The fact that choices and the stats they correspond to are clearly signposted was also a plus for me, especially since you can't save as you go, so it's helpful to have a good idea of what you'll need in order to make a certain option successful before you choose it.
