McGee took Alice, which was "just surrealistic" and brought the volume up to 11 by turning it into a fully-fledged psychological horror with curious game mechanics and mini-games. Not only the characters are over-the-top colorful, but so are the weapons and the level design. This game isn't afraid to explain new and unexpected things instead of just making it all comfortable for the player. It's also one of only a few games that changes the clothes of the hero based on the chapter of the story they're in. These days you'd only get that as a paid DLC or with a Battle Pass Subscription on Day 123. The story is completely not what you expect from the start of the game, or if you watched Disney's cartoon, or even if you read the actual book. One could think it's just a stylish game with some scares, meat, blood, monsters, whatever, seen it a thousand times. But no, the horror is real, and it's a chain of events that you have to decipher yourself, until the ending proves your worst guesse...

About This Game

Eleven years ago a horrific fire took Alice’s family from her and left her mind horrifically scarred. Afterwards she was confined to Rutledge Asylum, where she struggled to confront her demons by slipping further into her fantasy world of Wonderland. Now, after ten years, she has finally secured her release—yet she still bears the heavy psychological burden of that tragic event.
With her mind in tatters, she is unable to resolve the fear prompted by her strange memories, dreams, and visions. Perhaps she’ll do better in Wonderland. She always has. She travels there, seeking what the “real” world can’t provide: security, knowledge, and the truth about the past. But in her absence, Wonderland too has suffered. Something has gone horribly wrong, and now a great evil is descending upon what once was her beautiful refuge. Can Alice save Wonderland—and herself—from the madness that consumes them both?
Key Features:
Intense 3rd person action:- Use multiple upgradeable melee weapons, including the explosive Teapot Cannon, the punishing Hobby Horse, and the classic Vorpal Blade.
- Encounter familiar but now strange characters, including the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the Caterpillar and the Red Queen.
- Obtain peculiar abilities in Wonderland such as floating with Alice’s dress, shrinking, or growing to towering sizes in order to crush enemies.
- Intuitive and rewarding puzzles such as transforming obstacles, musical memories, chess, and picture blocks.

FIX FOR UMBRELLA | The umbrella doesn't work by default. You have to do some backdoor BS to get it to work because the Publisher couldn't be bothered to. Navigate to: User > Documents > My games > Alice madness returns > Alice game > Alice input; it will pop up in notepad and there you can scroll down till you see "Key_Block=TriggerBlock" after Key_Block=TriggerBlock Add " | OnRelease TriggerBlock false" Then when you get in the game lock onto the Menacing Ruin and press "E" to parry while locked on, do not press your keybind for blocking, its not coded to work correctly.
Great game, terrible port. While I prefer the first Alice in terms of gameplay, Madness Returns is extremely beautiful and engaging, even today. The Alice franchise left a profound impact on me with how unique, gritty and yet beautiful it is, and I recommend everyone to at least give it a try. I think this is honestly one of the best examples of a female protagonist done well, and even games today can learn a thing or two from it. Unfortunately, this particular version has countless bugs and issues that require you to go in and out of the config files throughout your playthrough, making this a much harder recommendation than I want it to be. The problems mostly come up in the latter half of the game, so you can get a good feel for it before having to do all that, but it's something to keep in mind. It is kind of a shame EA abandoned this game in this state (and the entire Alice franchise for that matter, just google Alice Asylum), but something is better than nothing I suppose.
Absolutely my favourite video game of all time, it's unfortunate that EA are horrendously selfish. I will never stop recommending this masterpiece, I just wish it'd been published by a company with a conscience. Worth playing? Yes. Worth supporting EA? No.
Game Rating 8.8/10 I decided to play Alice Madness Returns after I watched my ex girlfriend play it, when I first saw the game I felt this unique vibe that I have never felt before so I decided to give the game a try when I saw it on sale, first things first I gotta say.. the game is pretty much free with the price tag of two dollars on sale, and I must say, I played Alice for 30 minutes, then the game instantly hooked me, FULLY, even for an old game the game is very very good, although there were A LOT of bugs that sometimes made me wanna uninstall the game, I will not adress them here as there are a ton, but if all of that is ignored, the game is amazing, after collecting every single collectible and reading every dialogue you get to a point in the game where you just wanna finish the game to know what happens, and I must give it to the developers, they absolutely cooked with the final levels of the game and the story itself is pretty pretty good, I would love to one d...
good game but the optimisation 2011 runs at 30fps only EA
This was an interesting experience both on a technical and entertainment level. Let's get the negatives out of the way. It's glitchy. Oooooooh my goodness is this game glitchy! Throughout my playthrough I experienced 4 crashes and numerous glitches throughout the game. I always knew when the game was stuck loading because the swinging loading icon didn't stutter while loading. If that icon was moving smoothly, the game was stuck loading. Hitches. They happen. Frequently. Not so frequently that it's unplayable, but they happen often. I spent most of the time gritting my teeth when it looked like the game was about to crash even when it didn't. Locking on to enemies. Ever played the modern Ninja Gaiden games? This game makes the camera on those seem like utter perfection. If there's more than one enemy the camera will often zoom in ON YOU instead of panning out so you can see your enemies. This creates a number of problems including when you dash away, you end up dashing TOWARDS th...
Extremely glitchy, so much so that it makes the game unplayable. That's unfortunate because the world of Alice Madness is quite fun and I would have appreciated the nostalgia and re-discovery of the story.
love love love love love love love love love love love love. know damn near everything about it but the gameplay is frustrating sometimes due to how old it is, genuinely the most creative world ive ever seen in a video game, they dont make games like this no more ! ! amazing music and artstyle , super fun and whimsical and Freaky ! less of a game and more of a vibe, the lack of bosses is disappointing but i cant be too mad at it when the world is that beautiful
Loved this game since i was a kid. great story, gameplay, and visuals. such an absolute gem that id recommend to anyone
