This is a great modern beat em up for anyone who loves old arcade belt scrollers or is just looking for a low commitment action game to have some fun with. Gaiden sets itself apart from other brawlers by having a small splash of randomization in it's progression. Md level bosses will change each run, and the power-ups you can choose after beating them will also be random. Thankfully, the game is balanced enough to be beaten without any power-ups so your run isn't doomed if you get unlucky draws. The dynamic difficulty system is also worth noting in that it lets you customize how to make the game harder/ easier for each new run but also effects how much cash you'll rake in. If you fall in love with this game then you'll be happy to learn there's tons of unlockable characters to try out as well! Many of them are bosses with complete move sets and everything. Getting all the achievements is also a reasonable endeavor for the completionists out there. Overall, Gaiden does a good job of ad...
Easily one of the BEST modern Beat 'em ups in recent times. Up there with SoR IV and TMNT Shredder's Revenge for me Double Dragon Gaiden is different from the other 2 however: you play as 2 characters at once and is vital that you learn when and how to swap between both. Each character separately doesn't have a lot depth, but learning to combine the moves of your duo makes the skill ceiling difficult and satisfiying to reach A more technical beat 'em up than TMNT:SR and perhaps a bit slower than SoR IV: still an amazing game, with great visuals, music and tons of replayability. If you love beat 'em ups get it ASAP, with all DLC included. Even if you haven't played any Double Dragon game, you'll love DD Gaiden!
Nice game. Full asking price might be a bit much, but well worth on sale. Works without any issues on Linux with Proton. No problems playing online co-op. About 10 hours to get all achievements, but there's a bit more grinding to do if wanting to unlock all characters and stages for survival.
Game is way way too short. Anytime I pay more than $1 per hour in game cost to beat a game I feel ripped off. Beat the hardest version "No Continues+" on my 2nd playthrough. I like that you can unlock more characters and the art is good but the game is just way too short. 4 levels and 3 sublevels in each with all sublevels only consisting of a few fights.
This one took a while to grow on me. There's some depth to the combat, but not so much that it slows you down. The developer has kept adding bonus content and fixing things. Worth checking out if you can get it cheap.
A fun and charming retro beat'em up, with a bit of RNG rogue-lite mechanics. Not too hard or complex, not too easy or simplistic. I'd say it's easier to get into than SOR4, but harder than TMNT. Maybe a little bit expensive at full price, for the content it has (I didn't try all the characters, but I unlocked every item in the Token Shop and got 100% of the achievements in about 17 hours). But al least they're not selling season passes, or scaterring 70% of the game's content among 45 paid DLCs. Also, gameplay loop can get repetitive after a while, or become a "Special Ability Spamming Simulator", even when some builds revolves around not using special abilities often (certain upgrades gives you bonuses for having the special gauge full). All in all, I think it's a competent title for any beat'em up enthusiast.
enjoyed the game in 2P local coop good beat'em'up with combo system when you finish 3+ ennemies with a special attack which provides food or money roguelike level system is decent (always fight the mayor for money!) there is a lot of characters to buy with tokens when finishing the game which is good for replay value
Gameplay good. Sprite art good. Music good. Number of playable characters good. Netcode bad. Netcode BAD. NETCODE BAD. NETCODE BAD.
Why let me use my monitors native resolution of 3440x1440 if the game doesn't support proper 21:9 aspect ratio? Nobody wants to play zoomed in with the top and bottom of the screen cropped off to fit. I cant even see the whole menu screen. In this day and age all games should have true ultrawide support
