About This Game

Automata Ecosystem is a sandbox simulation game that lets you experiment with all kinds of cellular automata in an environment that lets them interact with each other. Not only that, this is a sandbox built for customizability: you can create your own species and customize their behavior, appearance and sound. Yes, their sound too! Automata Ecosystem is also built to turn cellular automata into a complete, interactive and evolving audiovisual experience.

Large scale cellular automata simulation powered by the GPU
Automata Ecosystem's simulation model runs almost entirely on the GPU, allowing grids that fit millions of units to run at more than 30 turns per second. Play with how many different species you want! The only limit is how big of a grid fits in your VRAM.

Customizable species interacting with each other
Putting a twist on Life-like cellular automata. More than one species of cellular automata may live and interact on the same grid, and you can decide how they act, when they die and reproduce, and which species they consider friendly or hostile

Turning cellular automata into an audiovisual experience.
Each species' look and sound can be customized. You can have flat or animated colors that change each turn, for an ecosystem that also evolves in appearance; you can also import images into the simulation to easily bring your own art to life. As for sound, each species can be assigned a sample to be played with dynamic effects that change depending on the simulation's state.

I don't know if it's a game, it's more like a toy program. We can do simulations like the ones shown in the trailer, make the orange color reproduce quickly while the violet color behaves hostile with the yellow and things like this that, import images and do this with its colors, I find it interesting, more interesting I think, would be to implement this in a game or something like that. It can be fun to try out configurations and learn how it works.

overall ok , but: wasd doesn't update cursor position tutorial windows should be movable (otherwise they sometimes overlay things they refer to)

This is essentially a procedural screen saver with awesome action to watch on the micro and the macro scale. If you've tuned things just right, and are a little lucky, the cells can come together to form amoeba, bacteria, and maybe a few other large interesting "living" structures I haven't seen yet. Thanks for the great sim, dev.
