About This Game

Judero is an action/ adventure game inspired by the rich folk history of the Scottish Borders. You play as Judero, a Celt who can establish a rapport with the nature around him. Travel with Judero through a handcrafted landscape as he discovers there is an evil at work manipulating the unguarded.

  • Fast and Fluid Combat. Strike, and dodge your way through a myriad of foes culminating in exciting and unique boss challenges.

  • Possess Enemies. Take on the form of lesser creatures to greatly expand your abilities. Use these enchanted minions in combat and to solve puzzles.

  • A Rich Text System. Discover the world of Judero through branching dialogues and pithy, aphoristic NPCs.

  • Mini Games. Through your adventures you will encounter a number of diverse Mini Games with differing mechanics and visual styles. Mini games also vary the pace of the game and allow us to explore other narrative tangents.

  • Rewarding Exploration. There are many secrets and discoveries to find as you roam through the world of Judero. From collectables and pick-ups to whole optional story-lines and more.

Judero is made from handcrafted objects and bespoke figurines, animated in the stop-motion tradition. For us, this art style invokes something nostalgic; in part comical but perhaps a little bit creepy too. These real life elements are then rendered into a 3D world to evoke a unique visual style. Using this style we can bring in digital techniques like real-time lighting, shaders and post-processing effects. Cutscenes will be made using traditional stop-motion animation techniques with greater fidelity to give a more cinematic quality.

The music in Judero is an homage to traditional British folk music such as those documented by Francis James Child. Many of these songs are hundreds of years old and it has been an honour researching and learning them. We are keeping instrumentation acoustic and mostly authentic to the originals (mostly) but with contemporary arrangements and harmonies.

Poetry. Life-affirming. Brilliant. Some of the best writing in all of gaming. Judero is the type of art that will live with you.

Pots and pans become drums. Vacuums become big space guns. Paper clamps become flesh eating parasites. Cardboard boxes become the fastest of hot rods. Protractors become the sharpest assassin blades in the universe. Markers that click together end to end become the mightiest most legendary of cool swords ever forged. The world outside the window of your moving car becomes a running course for your favorite guy. This game is the perfect example of how the human mind makes the most out of the most mundane. This game is the emotional bridge between our present and childhood selves that used any misshapen and everyday object to fuel the most epic of adventures. This game is a complete middle finger to any large cooperate development team that values flashy, refined looks and sales results over artistic integrity and fun gameplay. This game is real, genuine, heartfelt art that was toiled for. This game is a hidden gem among hidden gems. This game makes me want to go outside and...

incredible game, really beautiful audio, art, writing, vibes, themes, etc. Just excellent, well worth playing, another incredible short rpg that captures so much in just several hours.

It feels both depressing and miraculous to play a game like Judero, a small, beautiful piece of art that places its humanity front-and-center in a landscape of expensive products that are all somehow both the safest possible thing and also doomed to fail before they even release. I was drawn to the demo by the art style, but the writing is what made me want to buy it and the reason I'll be revisiting it again and again. Existing in this world, speaking with NPCs about their soulful, poetic, unsettling thoughts, and listening to the whimsical, melancholy soundtrack, has been such a welcome reminder of what games can be when they foreground their artistry, curiosity, and soul.

pretty simple mechanically although with just enough variety to carry it through the four hours it lasts, but it's in the incredible amount of care where the real value of this one lies, the the tactility and craftsmanship of the art desing paired with the incredible soundtrack and writing put in a class of its own, only game I can think of where I made it a point to stop and talk with every single NPC, if you fuck with the vibe this is a must buy

A beautiful tale which is more of an experience than a game. If you think you *might* enjoy this, then you certainly will and I highly suggest jumping on it. It's strangely haunting and beautiful.

This is a simplistic handcrafted hylics-like action rpg puzzle-game mixed with takes on philosophy and Scottish mythology. What there is, is surely interesting, but a lack of quality assurance and a coherent story are the main aspects keeping it back from perfection. First of all, the game is filled with glitches. None of them are game-breaking, but they are all either inconvenient or feel like cheating when exploited making the game seem rushed and thrown together. We got things like cheesing swamp sections via damageabuse, skipping entire areas by going out of bounds, dying during cutscenes, dialogue skipping, passive combat abilities actively hindering puzzle gameplay by hitting switches and other objects around the player, and by far the worst; gamecrashes. When it comes to the story meanwhile, the game has a couple cutscenes that tell the basics of what is going on, but the majority of the story content is provided via npc dialogue and an optional beastiary consisting of hid...
