Big fan of Ben James' previous works but this was an amazingly bland and repetitive experience even three stages in. First mid-bosses of each stage moving in exactly the same way and having the same second stage. Backgrounds that are the same symmetrical patterns vertically zipping by for the entirety of the stage, telling no story. Some boilerplate OST and boss intro signage. Absolutely baffling eye-shaped bullets that flicker between bright blue (good) and dark blue (why on earth). The biggest killer to enjoyment for me was the lack of any button to slow down movement for finer discrete shifts in position and of course getting bopped for it. This feels like research was done into What To Do in SHMUPS, but as a result played it very safe and didn't do anything interesting or out of the ordinary. This genre has about 3 and a half decades worth of entries and too many greats too list, but let's just keep the recommendations to Western devs from the past decade: ZeroRanger Teslapunk E...

Super satisfying retro shmup. Intense and difficult! Things I'd like to see improved: * More sfx variety * Some enemy projectiles can be difficult to see on certain backgrounds, particularly the blue ones

Tameshi is a retro 2D shooter with bright colourful graphics. Choose the difficulty, weapons and controls, and fight enemies and bosses. Avoid getting hit to increase your bonus and score. Use extra boosters to survive and deal more damage. Tameshi is a game for fans of classic 2D shooters! The game is well made, fun and addictive. Just a pity that the leaderboard is not global, without sending the score to the internet.

I don't trust the hitboxes at all in this game, I was forever getting unfairly clipped during the bosses so I was just bombing through them on very hard difficulty. I think the hitboxes on the enemy bullets need to be a lot smaller. I think that's the issue. Some of the patterns can be quite dense during the bossfights and going between bullets often results in an unfair death. The bombs in this game are ludicrously overpowered though! One bomb takes off 90% of the TLBs health! Bit of a pedestrian game, to be honest, but worth the 4 quid they're asking so it gets a thumbs up. Would be elevated by an extra scoring mechanic or a hyper button or something. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9Arnonz0SQ

It is a well made game, has good controls, sounds and looks great. I couldn't have much fun because the background confuses me, it scrolls too fast and and the colors are saturated, which makes it difficult to see the bullets.

A lot of fun and challenges from the beginning to the end of this one. Unbelievable that this is so well done, music, diversity of enemies, even practice mode for all of the stages that you can decide how powered up you would like to be, and for such a manageable price. It's a great game for vets of the genre as well as being welcoming to folks who are new to the genre. The only thing that would make it better is accessibility on the Steam Deck, but a very, very easy recommend.

This is very polished and great game. It is challenging but seems beatable (on normal level - I need to try the harder levels, lol). It also has a high replay value with choosing different combos of power-ups. It has great graphics, some classic anime sound effects, interesting bullet patterns and the music is nice as well. You did an awesome job putting this game together, Ben! UPDATE: I forgot to mention the controls. The standard default is perfect for me...minimal thumb movement needed on the buttons. Also, those are some satisfying explosions in the game.

Tameshi is a really fun and accessible shooter. It looks nice, sounds nice, and has an interesting power-up system. You can't go wrong for the price.
