About the Game

Experience a nerve-racking Lovecraftian adventure, rebuilt from the ground up with modern graphics and gameplay. Become Sherlock Holmes, and find yourself at the heart of the terrifying Cthulhu Mythos as you investigate a series of mysterious disappearances in Europe and the US.

A Lovecraft meets Sherlock Holmes crossover, The Awakened puts you up against the legendary Cthulhu Mythos. Investigate a series of mysterious disappearances, apparently linked to a dark cult that worships an Ancient God. Whatever their plan is, you must put a stop to it… or face unspeakable consequences.

For the first time in his life, Sherlock is truly afraid. A man of rationale and reason, he faces an otherworldly entity that defies all logic, and this discovery is as enlightening as it is shattering. The pursuit of the truth pushes Sherlock to the verge of madness, and it’s the only story that Watson will never publish.
Taking place in 1882, The Awakened lifts the curtain on how Sherlock and John, mere roommates at the time, became the world-famous crime-solving duo.

Key pillars

 • Investigate the Cthulhu Mythos as imagined by H.P. Lovecraft and face Eldritch horrors beyond human comprehension
 • Fight encroaching insanity as you pursue answers to questions that have no rational explanation whatsoever
 • Find clues that will lead you through the famous Baker Street in London, a haunting psych ward in Switzerland, the perilous Louisiana wetlands and more
 • A reimagining of the 2008 title: Rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine, The Awakened boasts modern graphics and animations, an expanded storyline, numerous side quests and new mechanics including unique insanity gameplay.

As a long-time fan of Sherlock Holmes and the previous Frogwares games, I went into this expecting another deep, deductive experience grounded in logic, clever mechanics, and rich character work. Instead, what I got was basically a standard eldritch horror game wearing a Sherlock Holmes skin — and while I do enjoy Lovecraftian horror, this felt more like a mismatch than a fusion. Holmes is a symbol of rationality, logical thinking, genius and brilliance. But in The Awakened, he’s reduced to a helpless victim of cosmic horror with no agency or insight — a character being dragged along a nightmare rather than rising above it. Where did the detective work gameplay go? Previous games gave us disguise mechanics that influenced the success of missions, investigations with multiple solutions, use of Holmes' personal library, newspaper research and chemical station, and moral choices with consequences. Many cutscenes and key story beats feel abrupt. Take the ending to the New Orleans ...

5/10 I finished it, but my enjoyment from it was minimal. PRO: - Atmosphere - Graphics - especially faces and environment. - Voice acting - Music - no bugs CON: - The story is based on the supernatural, where the pair tracks down and stops a supernatural event that would destroy the world. This is nothing like the original Sherlock Holmes stories. - Deduction is negligible; clues are missing important aspects, and consequently tie together somewhat arbitrarily. - To zero in on clues, you have to very precise, and sometimes the target hot spot is much smaller than the object of interest. This is difficult with a controller. - The map does not show your current location, making navigation very confusing. - There were many points where I had to resort to a walk through to proceed. Most of these were not because I was not smart enough to solve a puzzle - they were just non-obvious choices on the part of the designers. - The game includes action elements, which makes no sense in a game ...

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a full remake of the 2007 title by Frogwares, rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 4. It’s both a detective adventure and a Lovecraftian horror story, blending Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic characters with the cosmic dread of H.P. Lovecraft. The game serves as a continuation of Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One, exploring Holmes’ early career alongside Dr. Watson. The narrative begins as a standard Holmes mystery in Victorian London, but it quickly spirals into something darker. Holmes and Watson investigate a series of kidnappings, uncovering a sinister cult obsessed with the Great Old Ones. The writing walks a fine line between classic detective storytelling and supernatural horror. Holmes is portrayed as brilliant but haunted, struggling with doubt and obsession. Watson acts as both partner and anchor, grounding the story. The Lovecraftian themes are eerie but not overly grotesque, leaning more into psychological tension than gore. ...

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a remake of the 2006 game of the same name. Here, Sherlock and Watson goes after a mysterious cult who sacrifices people for an ancient sea god. It follows the storyline of the original game, but repurposed as an early Sherlock adventure, with many references to Chapter One. It's not a 1:1 remake, and thus there some changes. But nothing too major, mostly just some slightly reworked plot. Puzzles and inventory are also simpler, being more in-line with newer Sherlock games. I think this game really benefits having a remake, being my favourite title from the old Sherlock games, and the devs already familiarised themselves with Lovecraftian aesthetics and atmosphere. The Sinking City is a great example of an atmospheric Lovecraftian game they made. But sadly, they also cut out some parts. For example, the original one had a funny chase scene in New Orleans, but sadly that part is nowhere to be found here. Not even the DLC sidequests compensate for that me...

This is the greatest Sherlock Holmes game I have played. I own the entire series, and as an avid Love Craft and Sherlock Holmes fan, this was the perfect mix.

It is average. The tasks felt a bit boring and a chore to complete.

Good idea - not necessarily the best execution. Probably would have worked better as a stand-alone title not connected to the Sherlock Holmes franchise. Skip if you're wanting to play it for the Lovecraftian vibes, but if you like the Sherlock Holmes games, it's probably fine.

Another terrible game they ruined everything about sherlock holmes The open world aspect is trash as you have no direction of where to go they changed the entire journal and made it ugly and confusing the characters look weird and weird lighting. they took away everything "detective" about the game and just made it a walking simulator. they also removed the first person aspect of the older games overall trash game.. ick GRAPHICS ARE HORRENDOUS running on a nvidia 4070 and looks like im playing ark survial ascended worst optimisation ever. will be getting a refund DO NOT BUY frogwares do not care about their games anymore
