I love kingdom of loathing and its spin-offs in general, but this is my favourite. The writing is fantastic (unsurprisingly!) and so funny, but there's also a lot of neat world building and a solid plot. It feels cohesive and consistent without getting boring, like this is a weird world where real (weird) people live. The combat is better. The plot sucked me in, had me playing compulsively for the full game, and ended in a way that felt earned and also big enough for the stakes.

About This Game
Your Uncle Murray has requested your aid at his antique shop in Ocean City, but upon your arrival the old man is nowhere to be found. Your investigation into his disappearance and the artifacts he’s been collecting takes a turn when you stumble across some shadowy plots (and a bunch of squirming eldritch tentacles) that threaten to bring about the end of the world.
Explore a sprawling open world chock full of danger, quests, puzzles, and stick figures in this single-player comedy adventure/RPG set in the prohibition era of the Loathing universe. See how many enemies you can stuff into a phone booth as the athletic Pig Skinner, control the curds and whey of the cosmos as the cunning Cheese Wizard, or march to the beat of your own inscrutable purposes as the hip Jazz Agent.
Features:
- Thousands and thousands of jokes, gags, and goofs
- A bunch more locations, items, friends, foes, and familiars than West of Loathing
- The same quality line art you’ve come to expect, but way more of it
- Superior stick-figure customization
- Strategic turn-based combat (but only if you want it)
- A corrupt government for you to overthrow at your leisure
- Authentically baffling 1920s slang
- Multiple cursed antiques
- Inappropriate fishing
- Non-Euclidean horrors from beyond the edges of the screen
- A time-travel side-quest given to you by your future-self
- An infinitely tall building
- Sentient math, talking frogs, and pettable cats
- No booze, as far as the feds know

Its a worthy sequel to the the previous game, West of loathing, and is a ton of fun for anyone who wants wacky encounters, wierd side quests, questionable clothing, and funny walking.
I love when she loathes on my shadow. Very good, very silly game. A great sequel to West Of Loathing that expands on every aspect. I'd recommend playing this if you liked WoL. Hell, even if you thought it was meh I'd still recommend this. Fixes so many issues that WoL had.
There's a lesbian character. That's about it.
Although feels just as funny and cartoonish as West of Loathing I feel Shadows over Loathing is closer to a puzzle game that is built on top of the central mechanics of West of Loathing. Don't get me wrong it feels nice and funny to get the jokes of each puzzle but some are more annoying than others in hopes to try to solve so be ready to look up a guide in some parts. Overall if you like lovecraft horror but not in the mood to horrifically question the very fabric of reality then this is the game for you.
All round amazing game. Loved some of the new features they have added. Can't wait for the next game!
It's fine. As other people have mentioned, it's not outstanding. I played the first half a couple years ago and left it behind. Finally finished it today. Worth playing but not amazing.
I really enjoyed the first game and this one. There is surprisingly a good amount of content and quests to explore. The second game lacks a little bit of charm (just a little) compared to the first game. That’s the only complaint I have. Overall it’s still a very fun game. Hopefully the dev will crate more games like this.
As a note to anyone buying this game, and the predecessor, these are both like what you would call "Ironman" games. Similar to an Ironman game of Stellaris. You can die as much as you want and redo a fight, but it auto-saves almost immediately after doing anything. This means if you use a single use item, or fail a puzzle, or don't do the "correct/optimal/wanted" dialogue selections you permanently miss out on those results and would need to restart the game to do an alternative. That being said I repeat that you instantly restart lost fights, and it is even more lenient that the West of Loathing where you don't lose the "until-you-sleep" buffs that people probably stack up. Overall this is an incredible low stress "choices-matter" type of game, and it doesn't hit as hard as some of the more aggressively made RPGs of the same type.
Second verse, same as the first - funny and interesting, with a variety of puzzles that are just the right amount of difficult (and if they're too difficult then the game doesn't necessarily punish you for not doing them).
