About This Game

Winner of Best Indie Game at the 2024 New York Game Awards and nominated multiple times at other ceremonies including The Game Awards and the BAFTA, Chants of Sennaar is a critically-acclaimed puzzle and adventure game developed by Rundisc.

Divided since the dawn of time, the Peoples of the Tower no longer speak to each other, isolated by fear or mistrust. It is said that one day, a Traveler will find the wisdom to break down the walls and restore the balance. Travel the endless steps of a prodigious labyrinth, uncover the truth and unveil the mysteries of this fascinating universe where ancient languages are both the lock and the key.

Inspired by the myth of Babel, discover an enigmatic and vast tower. As the Traveler, delve into a world full of mysteries, where Peoples have grown distant, unable to communicate with each other anymore. Begin your adventure in a prodigious tower inhabited by five distinct Peoples, observe, listen, and strive to mend the bonds of distrust.

With a smart gameplay system, explore and solve various puzzles to uncover the mysteries of five different interconnected languages. Always guided by your trusty notebook, note each symbol, keep track of your surroundings, engage in conversations with people and unravel the meaning of every glyph. Each step will pave your way to the top of the Tower as each word will restore the link between People.

Dive into an enthralling and colorful world full of secrets. Tumble headlong into a beautiful world inspired by impactful European comics authors where every floor of the Tower possesses its own visual identity, supported by distinctive technological levels, architecture and culture. Embark on a poetic and enchanting journey driven by a soul-stirring, lyrical soundtrack, made by Thomas Brunet.

family sharing is wack, so the following is offered on behalf of my partner. chants of sennaar is a competent puzzle game, but it is not the game i wanted it to be. i am still Recommending this for what it is, but if i knew sooner what this game was -not- i probably would not have taken interest in it. picking up a game like this, i am looking for a linguistic puzzle that is going to challenge my deductive reasoning and ability to infer foreign contexts of meaning, purpose, and grammar. technically, this does all those things. however. the obstacles that were most prevalent and challenging in this game were -not- ones of linguistic intuition. they were more pedestrian. the game gives you a book of illustrations to compare the glyphs to, and to check your work every few steps a la obra dinn. this is a good system... but because you only discover each set of illustrations as you explore the world, the -real- challenge of the game is finding all of the triggers so that your character ...

Great game, but it has an excessive amount of hand-holding. It really needs a difficulty level for players that don't want the game to be this easy. For context, I completed the game without filling any glyphs in the book and it was a fun game. So do we even need the book? The problem with the book is you can easily just try a combination of glyphs to unlock even the hardest translations. That, in turn, helps you understand the dialogues even more making it easier to unlock the translation for all the other glyphs. The images in the book help a lot too. You don't want this game to be as easy. Because once you finish it, it's over and there aren't many other games like this. I hope they add difficulty levels in the future.

Cool concept for a puzzle game of deciphering the languages, however, there is so much filler that I can't recommend it. The most challenging part of the game is finding all the semi-hidden areas or slogging around the map trying to find where to go next. It is fun getting to a new stage and dealing with a brand new language, but usually you get a few gimmies so it's not really a challenge. Can only recommend if you're looking for a slightly more involved point and click game, rather than a true puzzle game.

Closest thing that gave me the same beautiful feeling as completing my morphology/phonology homework. Loved it.

ITS SUCH A FUN GAME!!! Honestly the artstyle is just gorgeous, the puzzles are fun to work out (if a little repetitive towards the end) and the plot is really immersive.

One of the best puzzle games I've played. It was so much fun and so captivating I actually finished my playthrough in one sitting. Each peoples of the tower are wonderfully different and tastefully crafted. I found myself wishing the game to go on for another hour after I realised I was nearing the end.

I enjoyed this game thoroughly from start to finish. As an avid puzzle lover, this game was perfect! While this game wasn't an easy one it wasn't an ultra hard one either; I found that it was much easier to solve the puzzle rather than brute force them. The way each language was designed intrigued me and I loved learning each one in turn. Overall I definitely recommend this game, even if you aren't big into puzzles!

tl;dr - GIVE IT A TRY AND DO IT ABSOLUTELY BLIND, LET YOURSELF SINK INTO THE GAME AND IT'LL BE WORTH IT I PROMISE This game is incredible. I think the best summary is that I am deeply saddened that I will never get to experience it for the first time again. In short; it's beautiful, it has charm and character, it has unique designs, the puzzles are creative without being overly complex, the languages (the actual main puzzle of the game) are unique and well put together, while feeling consistent and logical. It's not needlessly hard either; it helps you a lot without feeling like you're being spoonfed, you just have to be throrough. Not once have I felt frustrated or stuck, and the increase in puzzle complexity was gradual and welcome. The reveal at the end is one of the best moments of catharsis I have gotten from a game in a long time, lowkey cried fr. For the price this is at, it's genuinely one of the best deals on steam. The only complaints I have is that theres nothing else ...

One of the best games I have ever played. While on the surface it's almost old-stylish adventure game, it hides many layers of meanings. The world, while being simplistic at the first glance, reveals lots of tiny details, and you will smile every time you'll notice one. The core mechanic of the game is deciphering languages, and it's implemented just brilliantly: step by step, you understand more and more about the societies you find in the tower. The visuals, the music and the sounds are perfectly working in synergy, and it just feels great to explore the world. There are few rare minor game logic bugs, but that's basically all the negative I can say about it.
