About This Game

Kill Screen
Noun: A level in a computer game that is impossible to win.

1980s kids had it the best. Powered by syrup-ice Slushies, they ran riot, hiding from bullies and plotting with best friends to fill the hours with fun and games. Ringing doorbells before dashing away, between sugar rushes and thumb-wars, life was never dull. With parents glued to the TV, serenaded by the RATA-TATAT of action hero movies, 1980s kids played computer games until friction built blisters on their fingers. But it wasn't all good.

Sometimes 1980s kids were sent to stand in the naughty corridor, awaiting lectures of doom from sadistic Head Teachers. Sometimes bullies cornered their prey with wicked, menacing intentions. And, once, some kids played a computer game so well that they actually broke through the Kill Screen and uncovered a terrible secret.

You are one of those kids. Can you endure what slumbers beyond the final level?

Through the Kill Screen is an Adventure RPG with horror/thriller elements. You take the role of Leon, a mischievous boy enjoying his 1980s childhood. Imagine a bit of The Goonies, War Games and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, mixed with Mother, Undertale and a dash of Lisa and you'll be somewhat prepared for a colourful and sinister quest through small-town Britain. In a world full of curiosities, fun and danger, with multiple endings, Through the Kill Screen is a journey quite different from anything you have experienced before.

Features:

  • Tense and scary.
  • Or whimsical and darkly funny.
  • Explore Snoring Town, where secrets wait behind every corner, in every cereal box, around the u-bend or inside the washing machine.
  • Build your CHEEKINESS, IMAGINATION, FINGER SPEED and GOODY GOODY stats to affect your character's final, adult form.
  • Multiple endings.
  • Meet Pebble the famous boxer, from such films as Pebble I, II and III.
  • Bond with the local moggies.
  • Play Knock Down Ginger.
  • With amazing 8bit-style chip-tunes from a variety of talented composers.
  • Bright, colourful, cartoony pixel art.

This project somehow reminded me of the old game "How to get a neighbor." Only here in the main roles is a specific boy, whose name is Leon, and the actions themselves take place 10-15 years earlier. All in all, I can recommend this game. 8/10

An unusual and interesting pixel-style adventure game about growing up as a little boy in a fictional 1980-style city.

A rather interesting game in which we can explore the town and find out a lot of interesting things, in addition, there is a system of improvement of the character and good music. In this game the devil knows what's going on and you are the master. The most important thing to know is that when the rocks fall out, the soup is not cooked, there are explosions and aliens are attacking.

A cool 8-bit game with well-designed RPG elements and pleasant musical accompaniment. The bosses in the game are heavy and interesting, and the PVP system is worked out in detail. Thanks to this game, I managed to return to my childhood for a while and get nostalgic.

As an avid fan of the jrpg medium, i must say that this game captures the true struggles of a gamer kid being put down by the repressed adults of our education system. Those adults who strayed from the gaming path they ironically once followed now burden random little kids like loosers for simply picking their nose and doing funny shenanigans and lock them up in basements. this modern masterpeice of gaming allows you to fight against said unjustice, and also an alien invasion of green gamer gremlings, all while getting free slushies from some medium wage worker. Travel to an age where the princible would have totally been doxxed and cancelled on social media if it was around in that time for sending kids to basements, a time where you could throw rocks at old people without conciquence, a time where you DIDNT realize how creepy your favorite slushie mascot was in retrospect, travel...to a much simpler time.
