About This Game

Yosemite Forest Ranger is a story rich emotional journey set in an open world Yosemite Valley.

It's the early 1980's. You will step in the shoes of Theodore Thompson, a retired man with an emotional history. His Grandfather used to be a Forest Ranger in the Yosemite Valley. A beautiful wilderness heavily inspired by the real world location in Yosemite National Park, USA.
This beautiful location needs a new Forest Ranger and you, as Theodore, need a break from the life you had and will return to Yosemite Valley where you spent all your summers as a young kid learning outdoor skills from your grandfather.
But why has it been so long since you last came here? What makes this beautiful place a place with beautiful memories and on the flipside such heavy and dark emotions..?
Will you be able to fill those footsteps your Grandfather left empty? Will you find the answers you're looking for? Will you have what it takes to become the next Yosemite Forest Ranger?

During Yosemite Forest Ranger you will get to know Theodore and learn what happened in his very emotional and heartbreaking past. Voice Acting queues, like memories and other artifacts play a very important role in discovering what he went through. You may find these while exploring the open world wilderness and the various POIs.

Yosemite Forest Ranger is a Community Project created by ThirstyThursten's YouTube Gaming community, and is created out of passion from Gamers for Gamers by volunteers and hobbyists.

So, I'm going to lightly recommend this game because there is enough exploration elements and walking simulator goodness to overcome the rather dull (so far) storytelling. The tapes did nothing for me but I very much enjoyed making soup and warming up inside and exploring the abandoned national park. If more survival elements get added before release buy it. If it stays as is and just adds more tapes well.... Edit, so several months have passed and the updates are almost non-existent. No reason to keep this on my hard drive.

A very enjoyable game, especially in its current early release form. It is the devs first game, and much more fleshed out than a lot of first games. The graphics are great, the scenery is beautiful, the forests, mountains, river. There are seasons as is usual. The map is much larger than I had thought it would be at this stage. So far I have encountered very few bugs, occasionally sound stops and requires a reload to get it going again, but the dev and his team are aware of this and already working on it. The game is set in the early 1980's, and as a Forest Ranger the game starts with you driving along a road and then oops, you lose control of your non power steering car and crunch. You're fine, but now you have to walk everywhere. There is a short tutorial, it is typical of the survival genre in that you need to look after your HP, food, temperature and thirst. There is a stamina bar also. The game has crafting, exploration, a story line. Very good voice acting, with our guy havi...

Great work in progress! I know this solo dev is constantly working on improving and bug fixing this game. The open world is really nice and looks just like the Yosemite area. I look forward to continuing to play and anticipate the new updates!

Beautiful open world game, really could get lost in here. I think the sounds and interactions feel really clean and snappy, keep up the good work, look forward to exploring more... deep in the woods :)

I think this game needs some refocusing. If the true hook is to explore Yosemite and uncover a story, why are there survival mechanics thrown in? Feels like it is trying to be two very different things at once. Also, the non-existent tutorial made it very hard to know what to do next, and when I did find something, the interact system made it pretty difficult to enjoy. I have lots of respect for volunteer devs doing work purely for passion, but this needs some changes.

I've edited my review after further development: I respect and admire the vision but this project probably shouldn't exist. If you're starting from square one to make a video game and you don't know how to make a video game, it's best to start small. This could have just been "American Park Ranger" in a smaller fictional setting and it would have been a more realistic project. I really want this game to be good but it simply isn't. Essentially everything is janky. When I first bought this game, it didn't function at all. Now, with some great optimization fixes the game functions and I can experience bushes rendering at roughly fifty feet distance, broken physics, no walk animation, no instruction or goals, arbitrary invisible boundaries that don't make sense, and more. I honestly can't list everything wrong with the game or I'd be here all day. I won't even begin with more nuanced inaccuracies with the setting. This should not have been released for early access without a lot more fu...

Fun and relaxing game, in the Early access. A very enjoyable game. I like how is story progress and return me in my time where we have cassettes and VHS. Regarding some bugs have, but it is Early access and it is normal. Regarding bug what I was have in game is mostly about inventory where you want to put some food or wood or things in slot what I want it is wanky but it is not major so much. Other was sometimes when you want to cook and you pick up recipe and start to cook, the object like mushroom don't want to transfer from inventory to oven.. Overall game is really enjoyable.. Thank you Dev for return in year when I was born :D
