The style and smooth pixel animations are what sold me on the game, and I've been following this game on twitter for a bit now, so it pains me to give this game a negative review. The game does look great don't get me wrong, and the humor and writing is mostly fun and decent in the ways that matter, despite the not-great English localization. HOWEVER there isn't really much of a 'game' here. The RPG mechanics and combat are not really well explained, and also barely matter. I spent almost the entire game (after the first like 30 minutes) 1 shotting everything, including bosses, and being under no pressure from combat ever. The sword upgrade, permanent stat growth, and rank systems might've been interesting, but it literally never mattered, so I did not engage with them much. If you're looking for what is basically a visual novel experience with really cool pixel art, this is good. If you're looking for an interesting turned based RPG, you'd best look elsewhere.

User Reviews
If I were reviewing this game based on effort put in by the developer, I'd give it a 10/10. Unfortunately, I'm reviewing it as a game. Artis Impact is an ambitious attempt to execute ideas and concepts that just aren't within the creator's grasp, and it pains me to say that, because I do like many of the characters. The worldbuilding is interesting. The art is exquisite, and the music's great. That's not enough to propel a full game, unfortunately. Other reviews have mentioned that the gameplay is so easy you'll quickly start to 1-shot every encounter, including bosses. Is this true? Yeah, absolutely. However, I think that being simple and easy was the *intention,* so - be warned going in, this game has no tactical depth, and you will win every encounter by spamming Peerless (the very first skill you start with). The story is where I really want to hammer down, because boring gameplay can at least be understood if the narrative is compelling. Unfortunately, the story is best describ...
If you're here for a challenging experience, you should leave. If you're here for beautiful pixel art, animation and V I B E S; then this is the game for you! Wonderful experience overall, thank you for the wonderful experience Mas <3
In my kindest words to the developer: please get some native English speakers to edit the English translation. It reads like it was run through a translator app. I found it too distracting to keep playing, but will definitely come back if it gets fixed because I like everything else about the game.
So I found myself swinging between two extremes playing this game. One extreme was I couldn't really understand some of the design decisions being made, especially in regards to the combat. There are so many moments where the game sets the mood and tone for a boss fight really effectively, so to so easily one shot everything was really confusing. Bosses have unique BGM, and it would've been cool if I had time to hear any of them! It's beyond the game being too easy; one shotting every single enemy you come across in the game completely neuters any attempt the game makes at creating a sense of urgency or tension. Scary weird boss on a ship? May as well be one of the countless other AI mobs you spend the game mowing down; there is literally no difference in how their respective battles play out. At least give the bosses enough health to endure a few attacks. There are a few other odd choices, like title screens and opening (?) credits being placed randomly throughout the game for no re...
Pre 1.10 Update Review: I think that the bulk of what needs to be said about this game has already been written by other reviewers. The characters are a lot of fun, the art is beautiful, and the depth of each environment is very alluring. I wish I could give this game a 3/5, not a thumbs down, but in the hope that this game gets an update, I can't recommend it currently for the singular reason that playing it after this theoretical update would be giving this ambitious game the respect it deserves. It currently is still in a "WIP" state in my opinion, and its state harms the opinion you will have of a great potential of a game. I will focus my review on what the game sorely needs in a hopeful major update:

Combat balance refactor. For narrative reasons it is okay that the protagonist is very overpowered, but the extent that they are overpowered does two things: First it completely eradicates any interest in combat strategy, upgrade choice, loadouts/gear, or expe...
Based on 20 hours spent in the demo (combing over it for all secrets, events, etc. over two playthroughs) pre-release: Endlessly charming, with an unusually lively world and a strong sense of personality. Akane is distinct, an original creation, and most of my interest in this game is driven by my desire to see what she gets up to, both because she's fun and because the animations of the things she gets up to are gorgeous and extremely detailed. On the gameplay side, Artis is messy, and not very deep (at least as far as I've gotten). If you're the type of player that likes to dig into stats and needs to understand all underlying systems to feel comfortable, Artis is gonna let you down. But that honestly doesn't matter. This game is about the V I B E S. It's about finding secrets, cutscenes, animations, character interactions, locations...goofing off, mostly. It's about Akane goofing off. And you're Akane. I'll update this review as I get past demo content, but based on experien...
Its a fine product but it feels rather unfinished and incomplete. Wish there was more to the game and the story. If you're in for silly animations and a lil bit of lore you can get it, but i cant completely recommend it if you're expecting anything else.
The best review I can write for this game is that I'm constantly smiling while playing it. It's such a delight.
this has been one of my favorite experiences this year and I can't exactly explain why the game is weird and sometimes feels really bizarre but at the same time I feel like it's operating on the same wavelength as me. It's like a really strange underground post rock album that for some reason you end up loving to death. the main issues in this game are unbalanced combat and slightly nonsensical plot but even then I feel like it just adds to the charm. the main attractions of this game are without a doubt its visuals and the detail in everything you do. This game was designed for people who see a closed door and want to bang on it over and over again just to see how the game reacts. The game wants you to play it weird, flick every switch, stray away from the objective, talk to a dude 10 times just to see if something funny happens, buy an overpriced unnecessary item and see what happens, etc. when you play it like that, the game just clicks and it doesn't really matter that ...
