PLEASE DON'T LET SOME BAD REVIEWS STOP YOU FROM PLAYING THIS MASTERPIECE! In the beginning, it may seem difficult as this game doesn't hold your hand. Some of the bosses are a bit difficult but once you learn their patterns, and get further along, it'll be one of the best games you've played in a long time! TO To me, this is one of those MVs I was about to give up on, but stuck with it and now I'm convinced that it should be a GOTY contender. Every bit of free time I had, I was playing this game. This game had me up at 6am, during lunch break, and right after work playing. To me, this definitely relieved my HK SS itch. Someone mentioned the save areas are nowhere near the bosses, but I think they have not been playing long as that wasn't the case for me. There were a couple of bosses that you had to travel a couple minutes but I think they took the wrong path or missed the save area entirely.

Shadow Labyrinth is one of the better metroidvanias I've played in recent memory. Honestly, I felt the need to write this review simply because looking at these reviews kinda baffles me. This game deserves a lot more love than it's currently getting. Now I'm not going to act like it's a masterpiece. The menu is a bit sluggish to navigate, some cutscenes are unskippable, collecting materials is tied to your stamina for some reason, and the artstyle can look a little cheap at times. But I think this game delivers where it counts. The controls and combat are tight. Exploring the world is a delight with loads of rewards to find. The game is challenging but never unfair. The story was really engaging. The mazes are a super fun addition and a nice change of pace. And the whole game basically feels like a homage to not only Pacman, but Bandai-Namco's history as a whole. I see a lot of these reviews saying that the game is too hard and the checkpoints are too sparse. I don't see it. Yes, yo...
This game's clunky controls, poor level design and sparse save points cannot be overstated enough. I saw this game's mixed reviews and gave it a chance. A chance. And for a moment, I figured perhaps it was a different strokes for different folks scenario. The actual artwork and levels are visually appealing enough and the game is clearly meant to be a love letter to Bandai Namco ranging back to Xevius and Galaga. It has this grandiose (Albeit poorly written) universe trying to tie all these games into one big bundle while throwing the most cookie cutter enemies at you in between. Enemies have sometimes obnoxiously large hitboxes, are hidden behind obstacles or are just plain thrown at you in massive waves that cannot be very well handled by your measly 3 hit combo and cumbersome special moves that use the same stamina as your dodge mechanics. And most ironically, Pac Man (Or Puck) is meant to be a large integral part in both story and gameplay. And though his story inclusion can be ...
This game has a good presentation, an interesting premise and is nostalgia bait in its finest form. Unfortunately, I can't get through it anymore. Movement is clunky, frustrating, and it compounds with contact-damage to make traversal and fights an exercise in tedium. To say a game is vast normally refers to a strong point, but in the case of this one, all you get is gigantic corridors full of nothing. Exploration usually leads to nothing, if not insultingly low rewards such as 50EXP which never gets better even as your shop and ability costs continue increasing. Parts of the levels are designed in a way that have suspicious looking ledges or caves you can explore for no other effect than them being there and adding no sense of accomplishment whatsoever. At one point I found a secret room that was merely a spiked room with a hookshot point that lead to the main path which was right next to the secret room. Nothing inside of the secret room, just spikes. The game is vast, yes. ...
TL;DR Fun but very flawed game, concept, gameplay and environments are interesting but super hard difficulty and slow progression can test your patience a lot. I’d say only the hardcore classic Namco fan (with knowledge outside of Pac-Man) will get the most enjoyment out of this or the person looking for a hard game, for the casual Pac-Man fan I'd say you'd be better off with World 2 Re-Pac Dedicated Pac-Maniac since 2010 giving Pac-Man but edgy a try: PROS: - Surprisingly alright take on "Pac-Man but edgy" - Longest "Pac-Man" game to date at over 30-60 hours of shadow madness, rewards with exploring the large world (20 hours minimum) - Story builds up on Namco lore built over the past 40 years in really interesting ways - Lots of cool Namco homages outside of Pac-Man including references to Splatterhouse, Tower of Druaga, and more UGSF games like Xevious (might as well call Shadow Labyrinth the Xevious game), Galaga, Dig Dug, Baraduke, - Pac-Man maze gameplay is practically a Champ...
I give Shadow Labyrinth a 7/10. I recommend this game if you like challenging metroidvanias. I say it has a decent difficulty. Not impossible to beat but not that easy either. Just the right difficulty. The story is fine. You'll be lost on what is happening at the beginning but figure it out as you go through the game. There are quite a few areas that are interesting but some do look about the same as other areas. The music is great and the Pac-Man mazes are too. I feel they could make a whole game with those kind of mazes. They were so fun! The combat is decent, reminds me of Hollow Knight especially when you do the midair down attack on a enemy. The art style looks good in my opinion especially in some areas it really shines. I liked the references, character and enemy designs. This game does have its flaws of course. I say its biggest flaw is the beginning. It feels like a very slow start with barely any upgrades and doesn't feel like a metroidvania until later on in the game. It's ...
The most horrendous game I’ve ever played. I was so excited about it, even bought the digital deluxe version. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!
wanted so bad to like this upgrades are forever in between control is way off some section are way too easy and others impossible bottom line is it is simply not fun - just frustrating
You're gonna die, you're gonna backtrack, you're gonna notice the tie-ins, you're gonna pull your hair out, ultimately YOU'RE gonna love it.
Dunno what this game did to 90+ Steam reviewers, but it's pretty good
