About This Game

What is The Great Deer?

The Great Deer is a more modern style point-n-click adventure game where you play as an intrepid explorer searching for an artefact of great value. Discover and travel to ancient and long forgotten temple. Journey into the labyrinth of rooms that makes up the temple, discover the secrets within, and uncover the dark truth behind a sinister ritual taking place within its walls.
Will you find what you’re searching for? Will you reach its inner chambers in time to stop the temples inhabitants from awakening their demon god? Buy the game now to find out!

Art and Aesthetic

The Great Deer has a hand drawn cartoon art style, with frame by frame animation. The game uses vector graphics to reach an infinite resolution, so the game will look crystal clear on all devices. The game also utilises a more flat digital art style during some portions to replicate the look of stained glass windows. This too is all vector, so the game looks great on any screen size!

UI

The Great Deer utilises a simple and clean UI design that both is easy to read, but also reflects the tone of the game. Use left, right, and down arrows on the edges of the screen to move around the temple. Use the inventory on the right of the screen to inspect and use items you find in the temple. Worried your inventory will fill up? Use the little arrow at the bottom to expand the inventory!

Gameplay And Puzzles

Discovering the secrets of the temple will not be so easy! Throughout the temple are many difficult puzzles that will withhold the way forward. With a wide variety of puzzles throughout the game, you’ll need to use your brain to find the clues and solve the puzzles to progress.
You’ll also need to explore the temple. Within are many rooms and secret passageways, that offer a non-linear experience, often with more than one way to get around the temple. All combined, this game offers around 2-5 hours of gameplay.

Story and Atmosphere

The temple of The Great Deer has many secrets within. With a well fleshed out backstory, this game offers a narrative filled with environmental storytelling and the opportunity to uncover the secrets of the ritual taking place inside the temple.

Soundtrack

The Great Deer has a beautiful original soundtrack composed by Aliel Hernandez and Andres Ciambotti.

Language support

The Great Deer is officially supported in 3 languages:
-English
-Spanish
-Kosraen (Kosraen translation is a little janky)

Here is another great game developed by Ryan Zollinger. If you liked The Sink Gods (or are a fan of the Rusty Lake games) you will love this. It is chock full of puzzles with much more content. Using hand drawn art and point-and-click mechanics, an adventure story unfolds as you make your way to, and later attempt to escape, the temple of the great deer. There is something sinister afoot inside those walls. Can you get out or will you fall victim to the plot? Yes, there are two endings. Wink-wink.

Very satisfactory puzzle game along the lines of Rusty Lake escape room puzzles. It's intuitive to solve even if the controls are a little janky at times. Basically if you're stuck, just observe what is readily available around you. Keep an eye out for what's written on book pages. The window puzzles are, for the most part, self-contained. The ending level is timed, but once you know the steps, it's possible to solve within the time frame even if you have anxiety-freeze like I do. (If anything, I wish the ending monologue was skippable because having to redo the level and being forced to sit through that each time was a draaaag.) If you like escape room puzzles, and you're okay with a touch of horror, this is a neat little game for you. Possibly a bit too short for my taste, considering the price, but it scratched an itch I was having waiting for more Rusty Lake games.

From the developers of The Sink Gods, Great Deer is full of not too difficult puzzles, the real challenge is figuring out how to get to the next puzzle. Really enjoyed playing it and will play it again when achievements are unlocked.
