About This Game

Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance is a real-time strategy game based on the Terminator: Dark Fate universe that follows the war between humanity and Legion's synthetic intelligent machine network.

In the single-player campaign, you take the role of a commander in the Founders, a force made up of the remnants of the US military and guide your army in an attempt to foil Legion's plan to exterminate the last remnants of humanity. In skirmish and multiplayer modes, play as three very diverse factions: Founders, Movement and Legion.

Take control of an army carried over from mission to mission on a series of large strategic maps. Make decisions about unit placement, battle tactics and abilities so that you don’t just survive but can become the leader of the resistance against the machines. Hone your skills and military expertise by replaying and achieving the best possible outcomes.

Dynamic battlefields: realistic tactics and consequences

Engage in complex, realistic battles where your tactical decisions are vital to your survival and ultimate victory. Use a variety of military equipment, vehicles and ammunition types in your battles against the enemy. Recruit and train new units, assign new skills and acquire new weapons and equipment to continue the resistance.

Encounter tense battles. Your battlefield tactics and choices have deep consequences that will impact through the campaign, with other factions and characters either joining you or fighting against you, and with certain missions being available or not depending on your actions.

Your resources are limited and you must protect your army. Weapons of war receive damage through a modular component damage system where armour characteristics, component malfunctions and hull structure all affect if your troops survive.

Lead the survival of mankind

Recruit others to your cause and grow your army. Mix and match the composition of your troops to fit your preferred battle tactics. Use infantry units, heavy armoured military vehicles, plasma cannon technology, drones and other flying units and even human skirmishers to achieve victory.

Use the battlefield to your advantage! Physics-based building demolition lets you generate a realistic set of tactical consequences, especially in urban areas.

Multiplayer Mayhem: Skirmish and Online Battles

The excitement amplifies in skirmish and multiplayer modes, where you can play as three distinct factions: Founders, Movement, and Legion.

Engage in epic battles across vast strategic landscapes, testing your skills and military expertise. Every decision matters, impacting alliances, missions, and the overall survival of mankind.

Challenge your skills in skirmish and online multiplayer matches, facing off against AI or real-life human opponents in intense 1v1 and 2v2 battles.

As much as I enjoy the setting of killing clankers as military remnants and the post-apocalypse flavoured resistance stuff, the primary thing I enjoy about this game is the realism - it's not absolute realism, but I can't think of any other RTS where a sniper is anything more than anti infantry, whereas in DFD a .50 Barret can actually threaten light and medium armour, there is a notable difference between the standard 25mm and 20mm rotary for the Bradley and light turret in what they can actually damage, where other games would just be a dps difference at the cost of per hit damage. Angle, armour, elevation, ammunition, it all matters. Aside from Ceramic/Cage armour I think every 'upgrade' or better thought of as a side grade which is nice, no strict 'meta' loadouts so-to-speak - by the end of both the standard campaign and the new Uprising campaign, I don't think any two of my units were identical.

For the love of god, fix LOS and path finding. Give it some fudge, give a tool to see where units can shoot, just do something to fix the none stop LOS bullshit. That should be priority #1, not making more DLC. The user experience shouldn't feel like fighting the AI and the game at the same time. That isn't how you make a game harder.

The game is hilariously broken. Picture this: a single enemy guy, a human with an assault rifle, can just lie down and become immune to fire. All while being able to damage any of your vehicles, up to and including tanks. Or that same guy can be in a building, your units will dump EVERYTHING they carry into the building and he will be fine. Any encouter will leave your vehicles damaged, normally knocking out the engine first making the whole vehicle useless. Save often, like every few minutes, because you will come across a single unit that will just lay down and waste a pack of abrams with their ak47s.

don't bother playing on any damage setting other than 10% (normal difficulty) cause after that everything will one shot your troops and armored vehicles from 20% and beyond with 10x more accuracy than your troops could ever achieve at max rank with increased accuracy from vehicle module. smoke be dammed because it only effects your ATGMs, and even if one of your ATGM or recoilless rifle shots are on track to hit something, 50% of the time it passes right threw dealing no damage, 3 squads of troops laying in a field firing at 4 of you squads in a building will demolish you, any single random 5.56 or 7.62 round from the enemy will instantly disable your vehicle engine regardless of where it hits and what angle you are facing, and rip right threw an armor vehicle like your Humvee WITH up-armor knocking your driver at the same time while the next shot that hits the back bumper knocks another random crew member. If you hate yourself and want to have a horrible time making sure every unit is...

I like this game a lot. Its very close to a men of war/call to arms - but without the TPS/FPS portion of it, and of course being terminator based. The best part of this game however is unit customization. For example, you can buy or capture a Bradley IFV, and then you can find/unlock and buy equipment to put on it. Different guns, missiles, smoke launchers, armor packages, engine and supply packages, etc. You can get two Bradleys, and then make one an anti-air/anti-infantry vehicle, while the other is made to be an anti-tank. But importantly, you're not just limited to modern tech, you can also access future tech. So your Bradley can get a plasma cannon, or you can swap the coaxial MG and 120mm gun on an Abrams tank - for a railgun that one shots Skynet (I know, I know) tanks. This is the perfect Terminator game, with the caveat that its based on the worst movie in the franchise. Luckily, that movie showed basically nothing from the future, so it appears the devs were given pretty fre...

Great tactical RTS. Build your army as your roll thru the campaign. There are some limited RPG components with decision making that affects achievements and what units are in your army. The tutorial is really limited, which does make it harder to learn the game. There are guides here on Steam or if you join the discord there's plenty of folks willing to give tips and tricks, like how to de-crew enemy vehicles to salvage for your own army. There have been lots of additions to create custom difficulties to really crank up the challenge, or feed the loot goblin and turn off supply needs. One of the best RTS games in recent years in terms of realism.

This game is a save-scumming, logistical, stratsim. Everyone else has made comment about it. The combat, story-beats and essential units aside, is pretty cool, and enjoyable. However, there is no hand-holding, or safety-net. There's no way, in a mission, to replace the fallen guy in a unit. The unit is a guy down until after the mission, when you basically hire a new guy. Each unit and number of unit members costs you some money each round. All that aside, I've learned to love the US military. God Bless the Abrams and Bradley.

It's fun, but I'm not a huge micro player... I enjoy story modes, but I don't want to constantly make sure my units are topped off on fuel/ ammo. I wish I would've just saved my money and watched someone on YouTube play through the game so I can get the story and skip all the micro'ing.
