Edited review after all achievements on third playthrough. Completed first run in 87 min. It's short, but good. Art direction was the initial draw for me, despite being a little put off by some negative reviews re: the gameplay, I was surprised that it actually feels smooth like the original Metroid. No jank here. It's just old school gameplay. It has enemies that can knock you off platforms, but it's not that hard. It's usually just a case of using your "alt fire" weapon instead of trying to conserve ammo. If you're old enough to remember Shadow of the Beast on the Amiga and the original Metroid on the NES, you recognise the atmosphere of isolation in a hostile, bleak alien environment. Although far more simple than both of those games, this is not a bad thing and it was well worth the money for the unique experience. Looking forward to the developer making a longer game, whilst keeping the minimalist focus. "Hidden gem" is quite an overused term, but this game is certainly one. If ...
