This game is a roguelite. Your goal is to survive a series of hand designed arenas against tough ennemies with your mobility and weaponry and reach the end of the cycle to unlock new Etheral Weapons!

...ETHERAL WEAPON? WHAT'S THAT?

An Etheral Weapon is a special type of gun that you can always spawn from behind your hips. Whether your gun is empty, you dropped it off a cliff or you just want to dual wield because that's the kind of cool dude you are, you can pull out these single magazine weapons to get you out of a bind!

18 UNIQUE ARENAS...

...made for the sole purpose of shooting, running and swinging around in.

Having a good time with the game so far, good soundtrack the web swinging is really nice and I love the gunplay. There were a couple issues I ran into while playing on the Oculus Quest 2. An issue for me at the moment is the angle that the guns are held. The barrel of the gun needs to be tweaked maybe 10-15 degrees upward so that it feels natural to hold and aim. The shotgun is hard to reload at the moment due to the angles as well it takes a little fiddling at times to get the next shell into the barrel. Dropping your gun on the ground sometimes drops below the real world floor making it difficult to retrieve your gun. Laying your gun on top of your other gun while dual wielding to reload for example, doesn't allow you to grab the weapon back with your other hand. The only way to retrieve the weapon is to toss it in the air which some times trigger the web instead of the grab. The ethereal gun is a little finicky to grab at the moment causing me to keep shooting webs at the groun...

'Basault VR' is supposed to be a fun, spiderman swinging action shooter with a sci-fi theme to it all. What you end up with is clearly a collection of assets thrown together to make a bland and unexciting game. Worst of all is the controls. With grab used for just about everything ignoring the other buttons and making the game feel uncontrollable and on the Oculus Rift the guns sit at an unnatural angle as well making the game feel worse than it already is. While I have only seen a bit of the game due to constantly having to start in the same place over and over I can easily see there is nothing here worth £12.39 and certainly not a lot here worth recommending at any price. This is one of those games I will get getting a refund on, it really is that bad.

First Impression: It's a solid experience so far. A little rough around the edges, but still pretty enjoyable. If you are curious seeing this game in action and a completed run, then watch the video below. There is no commentary. Just enjoy the show and I hope this helps you decide on purchasing this or not. I got no sound in the game using Index, this really needs to be fixed asap. I was able to fix the issue by opening the desktop view and then click on the screen with the mouse - then suddenly I get sound using the Index. Also jumping pressing the B button on the Index controller is very annoying, why not the A button? Grabbing the gun is often cumbersome, controls could be much improved. Also do not use both trackpads for the menu, the left should suffice. I constantly and accidentally touch the right trackpad when playing - and then the game stops and I get the menu screen, sigh... See how they did controls in Windlands 2, it's far more intuitive and much less frustrating. There are no graphics options in the game - this is unacceptable for a PC VR game. The menu system is cumbersome to access, the menu design is not good. In Doom VFR, see how monsters crawl on surfaces and ceilings - I have only played the first level in Basault, and maybe opponents move more in later levels, but...

EDIT: The dev added basic pointers to the grappling hooks so you can see where you're shooting, and I had a blast playing again. Lots of fun Alright, this is an odd one for me. Lets start with the cons, since I know that's what people need to read; The main selling point of this game: grappling hook based combat. The grappling hook is really hard to use. The only presence you have in the game is a little sphere, so trying to figure out where you're pointing before you've gotten the hang of it is rather difficult, and discouraged me from using the hook at all except for the spots where you literally cannot continue without it. It also doesn't help that a large majority of the "rooms" you fight in are either super skinny, or full of holes. And if you fall through a hole, you lose. All the way back to the start. That's a lot of risk just to feel kinda cool. I just compare it to Windlands 2 in my head, where I could easily fling myself into the sky, take aim with a bow, and smack a boss ...
