About the Game

Escape an Empire Gone Mad
The Empire has fallen. Its survivors are trapped within an apocalypse of its own creation.

Can you assemble a band of heroes and escape the Mad Empire?

Gather your Heroes
Master the full potential of a varied party of heroes, choosing from a pool of 13 classes. Unlock their full potential via skills, loot and more.

Wield Insane Loot
In its madness, the Empire used crystals to create absurd and cursed items. In Escape the Mad Empire, each piece of loot is as meaningful as it is unhinged.

Strategize in the Blink of an Eye
Masterfully employ your heroes and their items in order to survive the apocalypse. Pause the action at any moment to instantly use spells, abilities and consumables, turning the tide of the battle in your favor!

Construct Mad Machines
Your hub is your sanctuary. There you can use the Crystals of Reality to build awesome machines, which allow you to recruit, upgrade or restore heroes, buy, craft, identify or enchant gear, and more. Relax as you theorycraft the ultimate party!   .

Chart Your Way Through the Apocalypse
In each daring attempt at escape, you will chart your own path through the cavernous maze dug out by the Mad Empire. Take daring risks to reap big rewards, and face bosses at the end of each run. With each successful escape, your heroes are rewarded with resources used to develop your home base, and let you continue your journey through the Mad Empire’s apocalypse.

Will you Escape the Mad Empire?

Ok, I see what they are doing here, and in terms of what the game is, it's good to go. However, I personally just can't get over the controls. I feel like they could learn a lot from playing games like Starcraft or Warcraft. It's much too mouse clicky swingy movey. The combat doesn't feel fluid, and the UI lacks a certain clarity that would benefit the user when trying to get information from it at a glance. I found myself perplexed about hunger, satiety, thirst... I'm sure it's avaiable information, but .. it's called out more than it's shown to me as a user. Anyhow, This isnt for me. I do believe if you are a dungeon crawling fan, and played / loved games like Might and Magic, or Heroes of Hammerwatch, this game might scratch an itch. For me, the no-go is the UI and the controls.

SUMMARY: An Early Access tactical RPG with a lot of depth, fund grind, crafting, and pretty much the whole deal. You'll do everything from leveling characters to crafting equipment and a base. It's in Early Access and needs some polish so I can't say it's must-buy yet. But the Demo is worth it and it might be your new addiction. Escape The Mad Empire is one of those hardcore-yet-thinking-pays off type games. You will grind, you will have to think through every moment, but the results of your actions matter. It's not for everyone, but thought pays off and it rewards good gameplay. So let's take a look STORY: The Empire discovered reality-bending crystals, invented new technology, conqurered the world - then became overrun with monsters. Now you're stuck underground with a magical construct that's helping you warp reality to summon help and try to get out. GAMEPLAY: Gameplay is tactical RPG style, but it mixes both real time/active battle with pause-and think, environmental use...
