Cat Detective Albert Wilde will be discussed by Maria, Andreas, and Jackson as we dive into the technical and creative elements of the game.

About the Game

Cat Detective Albert Wilde is a 1930s noir-inspired detective game with humanoid animal characters.

How does Albert Wilde solve the strangest quantum mystery in a murder case?

Find out in this 6-7 hours silly and hilarious classic detective adventure tribute to the golden age of noir movies

Use your years of experience of interrogating and drinking at bars to chat with locals to solve a mystery. Rely on your cat-charisma to find the truth.

Meet a cast of 27 interesting characters like a pole-dancing flamingo, a piggy lawyer, a pissed-off moose bookie, an out-of-tune sheep singer, a FAMOUS SCIENTIST and the dangerous crocodile gang.

Albert Wilde is down on his luck. He’s broke, he’s friendless, he can’t get a girl, and his landlord won’t let him pee on the office wall anymore.

Q & A

Is the game a combination of different genres?

Yes, it’s hard to define Cat Detective Albert Wilde by a single genre, as we tend to blend multiple elements in our projects. This game is a fusion of comedy, film noir, detective mystery, science fiction, and narrative.

Can you describe the genre from a technical perspective?

From a technical perspective, you could describe it as something between a walking simulator and an interactive novel, with a strong emphasis on comedy.

Is this game a kind of ‘whodunnit’ murder mystery game?

It’s less of a typical "whodunnit" and more of an origin story—showing how Albert Wilde evolves from a Private Investigator (P.I.) to a Quantum Private Investigator.

Probably my favorite narrative game of the year. The script is both hilarious and willfully verbose, setting the tone early and gripping on until the conclusion. There's little in the way of conventional adventure game puzzles, but the game sometimes subverts conventional genre norms in very funny ways. My absolute favorite was the sewer safe sequence. Cat Detective Albert Wilde demonstrates how to use Unity assets for the forces of good. Anyone who appreciates absurdist humor will be delighted.

Genuinely enjoyed this! Mostly its the characters and the script - it does a lot with a little. There's not much puzzle solving FYI, but that's OK. The main character and the voice acting is charming, the plot is generally compelling, and the visual style also goes a long way.

This game has some similarities to Chicken Police (film noir style with anthropomorphized animals), but here you play from a first person perspective rather than through a PnC interface, which makes it look even more like an old movie. It also takes its story in a very different direction. Overall the game is pretty enjoyable, although the dialogue gets a little excessive later in the game. And it desperately needed more voice-acting. Rating: ★★★★☆

This has got to be the strangest game I have ever played. But it was fun. I enjoyed it and I do recommend it. You have to love dialog however, because there is a lot of dialog including corny jokes. The save feature was a little bothersome. Because of all the dialog, I would have preferred to be able to save at will, however SAVE appears only after certain events take place (a floppy in the right-top corner of the screen) and not often enough, which means you will have to play longer to reach a SAVE then you might want to play. The man-animal characters are graphically done pretty cool and the FEEL of the game is black n' white 40's detective. I say, if you're can play a game with a lot of dialog with no jump scares or the need to shoot something - and you like strange - give the game a try.
