About This Game

Edge of War delivers an isometric CRPG experience where your choices carve a unique path through the Northlands inspired by laplands and Finnish Folklore. Engage in intricate grid-based combat, leveraging a deeply interactive environment to outmaneuver foes.

In this world, every quest holds weight and significance, directly influencing your journey and the others around you. With semi-procedural world creation and emergent storytelling, each playthrough offers a distinct narrative and plenty of variety.

Venture forth, but remember: mastering the environment is as crucial as mastering the blade.

Engage in Tough & Tactical Combat

Trials and tribulations await those who seek redemption in the Northlands. Assemble your squad and scout the wilds beyond Fort Turso. This tough turn-based CRPG will pit you against the dangers and the darkness that inhabit the North. Test your wit, wiles and will in a world inspired by Finnish Folklore and the Kalevala!

A New Story Every Playthrough

Procedurally-deployed hand-crafted quests along with reactive environments lead to a level emergent gameplay unlike any other, and ensures every playthrough is different. Your decisions affect the fate of the Northlands. Choose your squad, choose your skills, choose your allies.

Make friends or enemies of the locals. Delve in dungeons and discover ancient artefacts. Fight tooth, nail and claw against the mighty beast of the wilds. Commune with the spirits and abide by their ways when traversing their realms. Or tackle indomitable constructs and collect their weird technology.

Each element is taken into account and will shape not just your characters but the Northlands. The smallest decision can rally a faction to come to your aid, or seek your destruction. So be careful where you swing that blade, toss that fireball, or lay a kind word. How you live will determine how you die in Edge of War.

Explore Finnish Folklore

Your squad is tasked with exploring a region that has seen the corruption of a Compelled God, bears the scars of a warlord, and is marked by histories and peoples long forgotten. And yet, somehow people still eek out an existence amidst all these dangers. The Free Folk and the Barbarian Tribes call it home, as do the many spirits - all of them just waiting for a reason to kill you.

Vaeki infuses every stone, every tree, every stream. It gives rise to life, it is present in death, and it is a gift of the gods. Ukko reigns above, Tuoni below. Their brethren are scattered. Yet all ignore you and your prayers. Such is the way of the North.

Fort Turso is your home, your hub for adventures. From here you can journey to the borders of Pohjola or seek the river to Tuonela. Perhaps you will follow in the footsteps of Tapio or heap praise and prayers upon a shrine to Vetehain. Wherever you go Hiisi and other horrors are never far away.

A big game update arrived April 2, 2024. A lot of new story content, NPCs, places to go, items, game mechanics. You command a four character party in a world which is inspired by Finnish ancient mythology. Two of the characters you create and two more volunteers join you, but you can make choices how to level up and equip all of them. Character editor is okay for a topdown 3D game: hair models, colors, body build, many sliders to edit the face. Combat is fun and it offers many tactical elements, like elevations of terrain, nature and walls can block attacks or your moving, you can knock down and push enemies, if you try use bows or magic when adjacent to enemy or try to disengage from melee they get a free attack against you, flanking enemies helps to hit them, you and enemies get different disabilities like poisoned, bleeding and crippled, thrown potions can set areas in fire, oil, poison gas or other elements/gasses/liquids. I've played some of the difficult combats many times, and t...

Lot's of promise in this one! There's not that much story content yet, but just roaming around the Northlands and fighting random encounters is fun and keeps the game interesting. Cool skills and dynamic environments make fights enjoyable. I also like the idea of recruiting new members to your party and growing them into a team - sometimes you lose them, but there's always more to recruit - only the toughest survive! The visuals of the game are really nice, especially the environments. The portraits looked still a bit wip, but i'm sure they will be polished in future updates. I really hope the team gets a chance to develop the game further and add more story content, as the basic mechanics work really well. Keeping an eye on this for future updates!

I encountered several issues with this game. To begin with, it is poorly optimized. I experienced constant stutter and major frame rate drops every time the camera auto moved, even when lowering all the graphic settings to low using an RTX3080 and i9 processor. This game also caused my pc fans to race pretty high. I know it's early access, but I believe games should be more optimized at this stage. It really seems as if the developer pushed the Unity engine just a little too far. There is also no resolution percentage slider nor is there any way to lower the highly sensitive camera rotation. As far as combat, I found the experience to be rather typical and dull with tons of misses and enemies that always seem more powerful than you. There are also no difficulty settings in this game. I also found the dialogue rather boring with no voice acting. There is also no mini-map, no clear objectives, and the environments are very small almost like tiles that are tied together by convoluted map-...

You can make a moose and name it moose lee 10/10, this is already enough content to justify the price. PS. the game is also quite fun.

It is a good looking and very fun combat game. It's kind of a strategic. I like the music and the sound. The graphics are solid for a game like this. It has a comicbook like mood. I really recommend it. Me myself and I approve.

Has promise, sad to see what happened to the developers. I had to support them for the obivous work and love they have placed into the game so far. I just hope it doesn't get abandoned in the long run and continue to get updates even if its not a regular schedule. There's enough here for a good solid proof of concept. Now needs the lore/content/polishing. Will keep my eye on this one for sure.

I have enjoyed the bite sized chunk of what I played here. This is a very solid effort from Action Squad Studios. You get to have a party of 2 that ya can customize or not. The gameplay mechanics just work. I like that the environment can be affected via the use of bombs etc. However, I do wish that there was in game voice acting. That would make it the total package imo. The game is nicely priced for what ya do get. Recommended. Gameplay here: https://youtu.be/IZSyCc1tGRE

Recommended with a caveat: it will ultimately either upset you or anger you after you play this for a while because you'll realize that there's a lot here and so much potential but due to reality of sales and finances it'll probably never reach that potential with all the polish and the jankiness smoothed out. It's Finnish folklore based and that's not something you ever see except UnReal World It plays like Divinity: Original Sin where you are a duo and you can control one at a time. The combat at this time is AP based so don't move get more attacks in but moving costs an attack. It needs about 1000 sales to get the funds to the guys making it. Chicken and egg problems. I like it, I like where they're going with it (it has a big map now!); but the wolves barking drives my dogs crazy. Keep up the great work and hope you see more sales come your way.
