I liked Metroidvania games a lot and while i find many of them very similar. when it comes to abilities and what not. but this was a fresh take. everything you can do with your guns, grappling hook, and just how physics work in this game. if you smart enough you can cheese out a lot of path ways early on by just learning how to control your mobility... idk deff enjoyed this game

About This Game

This Metroidvania has a physics-based grapple!
This metroidvania utilizes your grapple and weapons with a full 360° aiming system. The freedom created by these controls creates a smooth experience for users to feel in complete control of their character. Find creative solutions to flexible traversal challenges, and blast away witches and machinery with precise aiming.

The grappling hook is hard to learn yet rewarding to master. This unique physics-based elastic grappling hook uses your kinetic momentum to propel your character forward. Similar to rock climbing, there’s no set path through this melancholic abandoned wasteland. Latch onto any moss covered structure and swing your way through this rugged terrain.

No more aiming in just 8 directions. As a twin-stick shooter, Rusted Moss emphasizes tight and precise gunplay. Quickly switch between your arsenal of weapons to best suit your playstyle and situation. Get up close and personal with a shotgun before grappling away and pulling out a sniper for the killing blow!

Push your gunplay and grappling hook skills to their limits! From powerful witches to machine monstrosities, each boss fight throws its own unique challenge at you. Dodge swords, avoid energy fields, and blast away at conjured spiders.

User Reviews
A physics based platformer where progression is tied between player skill and progression items. Rusted Moss doesn't hold your hand much either - you get an item, and you figure out how it works. Hints are vague enough that they don't tell you what to do, but let you know when you might be missing a piece of the puzzle. I haven't had an experience that rewarded me just for being good at the game in a long time.
Overall great experience, sometimes hard platforming, but great metroidvania, great music and animation, really gorgeous pixel landscapes. The trinkets menu is like the power ups from Hollow Knight, kinda as well as the recovery system, but with guns. 8.5 - 9 / 10.
I absolutely adore this game, and I desperately wish there were more games like it. As others have said, the combat is relatively easy but the platforming can be pretty tough at times. I would rank platforming difficulty somewhere between Celeste and the Hollow Knight's White Palace area (excepting PoP). Shocked I haven't heard more discussion about this game; it is my favorite game I've played this year and I'm shocked I didn't hear about it until now.
I LOVE this game. The platforming is fun, the music is great, and the fights are fun (mostly).
The game has one very serious problem, and it's the same as in Pseudoregalia (if you've played it). You don't understand why you can't progress in the game because you haven't found a certain weapon/upgrade for your hero or because you don't have enough skill. Not understanding whether you can complete a certain section or not is very frustrating. I quit the game at 70%.
GRAPPLING HOOK!!!!
An absolute must-have for any lover of grappling hooks! The combination of the grappling hook and rocket jumps just makes the gameplay feel so, so good. The movement is truly best-in-class, and is well-served by the challenging but fair metroidvania level design. Mouse was suggested but I played it perfectly fine on dual-analog. Great pixel art, nice music, good length and replay value, and a minimalistic but interesting story make for a very nice overall package. Haven't quite finished the game, and I just learned from the trailer at the top of the page that there's more playable characters... including one with a sword, hell yeah.
Had a ton of fun with the unique grappling hook mechanics! It really added an interesting touch to the gameplay, especially in the challenge climbs and in certain boss fights. I also loved the different array of weapons we got, I was able to find a niche for every single one. Loved exploring all the different zones, there were tons of little details that changed depending on which zone you were currently in. Coming from games like Hollow Knight, Blasphemous and Nine Sols where save points were scarce, I was surprised at how generous the game was with save points, maybe a bit too generous at times. Still, a nice change of pace from those previously mentioned titles. You can honestly take or leave the story/lore, I personally didn't get a lot out of it. I especially felt like the characters didn't receive enough development to keep me invested. I would definitely recommend this game if you are looking for a low-stakes platformer/Metroidvania that shies away from your traditional melee...
I really can't understand why is this game so less known. You have for 15 hours of adventure with cool music, incredible bossfights and a very satisfying gameplay. This metroidvania isn't like others: every new ability you get is original (for example the grappling hook) and you don't even need them, you got the liberty to bypass some platforming sections with tricky jumps (you can litterally go to the final boss within 15 minutes) The game is really good in its main mechanics: combat and platforming. Combat is well enhanced by the diversity of weapons and trinkets (items like Hollow Knight charms) while platforming is very unique with the grappling hook. You also can play 9 hours of peak free DLC content. It does not gives you rewards, but it is still a very fun Celeste-like section to play. Devs are still adding new content over months.
