About This Game

The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is a satirical action-adventure, driven by a dark story, set in an incredibly rich and complex world.

Nostalgaia, the world of videogames, is collapsing backwards into a mysterious pixelation, with every particle of fidelity bleeding away. Oblivion seemingly awaits even our most cherished gaming memories. But as the lighting dims and frames diminish, with the world on the brink of extinction, hope emerges to fight back.

As the most hideous pixelated hero to ever spawn in Nostalgaia, you must fight through an army of its mindless inhabitants, while being jeered by a cynical narrator who despises your very existence.

Featuring hard but fair combat that fans of the genre will relish, along with *full character customization, unique battle armor and engaging narrative mechanics rich in lore, The Last Hero of Nostalgaia’s twisted and wicked tale is prepared to send you headfirst into almost certain death around its every vertex.

 • Set in a world celebrating video game nostalgia, The Last Hero of Nostalgaia features hard but fair souls-like exploration and combat, combined with a twisted, wicked tale told by a cynical narrator
 • Play together through online co-op and brave the pixelization together!
 • Uncover various suits of armor and weapons, each with their own unique lore and attributes

10/10 very good souls like with " Little side-quests, lore, and nostalgia strewn about the world from the characters to the enemy's and every little detail in between. if you've got nostalgia on your mind, a souls-borne will to fight and enough patience... you too will be the hero Nostalgaia didn't want... but surely needed.

Pretty decent soulslike when it comes to narration/worldbuilding with some good level design, but kinda disappointing when it comes to combat. The story is a satire with some good jokes, although some just don't land well. Level design is something else; it's if FromSoftware managed to keep interconnected design through entirety of Dark Souls 1, although it felt like a bit too much sometimes. Warp is only available after defeating one of late-game bosses, good for remembering remaining relics. Relics is also an interesting mechanic - unlike normal souls games/soulslikes where we get to see items' history right away, here most items need to be "remembered" at specific location, or with a price of memories (Nostalgaia's equivalent of souls). Gives an interesting spin on soulslike lore formula. And finally, the souls juice, combat. Well, it's the most problematic aspect of the game. It's not "bad", but it's nothing amazing. The hitboxes sometimes felt too short, enemies don't hav...

So I’ve been playing this for a good while now, and honestly I’ve got some stuff to say about it, some good, some not so good, but here are my thoughts: This game is good but definitely has its flaws. It’s basically a Souls like with a retro/pixel twist and some satire mixed in. The art style is fine, and the remembering system for weapons and armor is a cool idea since it makes gear feel more rewarding as you upgrade it. Combat is classic Souls style, stamina based, slow but satisfying, and the bosses are good and fun once you get used to the mechanics. But here’s the thing some issues still feel unpolished. Hitboxes can be pretty annoying. Co-op is also kind of broken, my companion literally turned invisible and became invincible during a fight, which was funny but totally unbalanced. Quest lines are vague to the point of frustration, and without proper fast travel, you’ll spend a lot of time running back and forth. Overall, it’s a fun indie Souls like with some...

A simple game, not amazing, not bad. But I feel that the real experience, what the game really offers is not its gameplay, but what it tells. Nostalgia is a game of references and...well, Nostalgia. Going through the old archetypes of games gone by, characters we once looked at as "Heros" as Icons of a society gone by, eras of games that have gone by- in forms of armor characters weapons and map locations. Something unique in itself. For strange reasons. Worth taking a look at for those who miss the past. 7/10.

I wouldn't trust all the reviews you read on this game. Phenomenal for someone that "likes" souls--type games but isn't a crazy nut about it. The lore is interesting, game mechanics are fun to learn and a good mix of challenge/fun. There were quite a few times I was impressed, chuckled, "saw what they did there," andddd got fairly upsetti spaghetti because I lost 50K Memory (Souls) to the same enemy over and over. There are even some "What in the flying monkey fart is THAT THING?!" moments! Very adaptable play-style as well. I'm currently still on the infamous "Luck Build," but intend to go for glitches next time through. Overall, hesitant to give any game 10/10, but this one I can see myself coming back to. (P.S. Writing this review after I intended to try it for an hour or so...it's now 1AM, and 10 hours after my first.) (P.S.S If achievements are "your thing," I know there's a lot of negative comments about it. Don't let that keep ya from a good game. ;) )
