Based heavily on the real life battles of the Johnson brothers against the minions of darkness, Awakened Evil is a masterpiece of pulse pounding retro horror action that will have you asking "what more evil shall awaken to block my path to righteousness?" The answer, of course, is all the evil! The only thing nearly as exciting as the game-play is the inspired score, which adds even more tension as you battle the undead, brave harrowing cliffs, and jump in faith to platforms visible only in the heart of a raging storm! The weak will fail in the agony of defeat, but for the brave and determined, you will emerge triumphant in your narrowly earned victory! It's worth $8.

Six awesome levels. Five special weapons. Four lives to live. Three years in the making. Two itchy buttcheeks. And one soulful protagonist: John Danklius III. Made by two brothers in the vein of Castlevania and other retro games. Can't recommend enough, S Tier ultimate platformer. Oozing with love and attention to detail. Beat it and learn something about yourself.

Challenging game with colorful graphics that throw-back to the Atari and Intellivision. Great music and intense action. Reminiscent of retro classics like Castlevania, Mega Man, and Ghosts & Goblins. Easily worth the price.

Picture this: A dimly lit room, a 70s AC buzzing in the background, and a plush cooler full of Busch light on the floor. Is this paradise? Perhaps.... Or maybe you just have yet to experience paradise in the form of a video game. I am only 10 minutes in and I am addicted. I need more. I crave more. I desire more. This game is packaged paradise. And I intend to get lost in it.

If you're a fan of the Castlevania games, this game is for you. This game is a love letter to the Castlevania series, and the guys who made them know what CV games are about.

I think my game is defective. I keep dying. I'm also bad so that is probably it. haha The game is challenging and it should be. The old school knock back sucks but good at the same time. That's how games were "back in the day." I don't have much experience playing Castlevania but this game has that feel. Retro look with 2.5D graphics and classic NES game music that is catchy. If you want a new retro game you have to pick this up.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? If you enjoy Classic-vanias, then you're gonna enjoy this. The level and enemy designs breathe life into a long dormant genre. Casual mode is a fun option for inexperienced players. The difficulty's fair on normal mode and it adds a lot of replay value and challenge with expert mode. Soundtrack is anything but BASIC and will keep your head nodding throughout. It may not be recommended for those who shy away from a retro-inspired challenge, but I truly believe if you give this game a shot you will not be disappointed. Plus it's truly an amazing value at it's current price so pick it up right now!!! There's always hope for a sequel!

If you liked NES Castlevania, you'll like this. It's pretty great, feels familiar but has a new sub-weapon or two and some interesting, somewhat more ambitious boss battles. Very hard! The jumping, attack and stair climbing actions are basically identical to the classic, and therefore the platforming and combat timing can be very tricky. The graphic style is chunky, colorful and generally pleasing, and appropriate for the throwback style of gameplay they are going for here. Also the price is not bad, especially with 25% off of that at the moment. Good game for fans of the OG.
