Fantastic game. Unfortunately getting review bombed on release because of an issue with session finder. You can still play with friends via steam invite or solo. This game does not deserve to be Mixed (64% at time of posting) because of an issue that's already being addressed and that doesn't make the game unplayable. I highly recommend this game!

The game is fun, but it's limited in its current state. The weapon customization is limited, the blessings are very cookie cutter and uninspired, the content is lacking for a game of its price. Like I said, it's fun, but this genre is saturated with games that are cheaper and have more content currently. Let this one cook a little while longer, see what the devs add and modify. Edit: The devs pledge to keep adding content to the game without paid DLC is refreshing.
this game has the sauce. with more time to cook, i have no doubt it will reach great heights. as it stands, i think the $20 price tag is 100% worth it.
I really wanted to like this game, but I'm already bored. My favorite part of a roguelike game is the variety found in each run, and often unlocking something new with each run. That doesn't appear to be the case with Abyssus. After over four hours, I'm tired for running the same bosses (I think this is always the same) and seeing the same blessings. It's been a couple of hours since I've seen anything new. With that said, there's a lot of things the game does well. Great graphics, emotes, weapons, music. Sadly, none of those things matter as much to me as the volume of content in a roguelike game. For anyone trying to determine where my roguelike content volume expectations come from: I've put countless hours into Rogue Legacy 1 & 2, Hades, and the Binding of Issac. I've also beaten and loved Returnal, Inscription, Gungeon, Slay the Spire, and more. Most recently, I played Hades, and after each run, I was ready to play the next. That's not been the case with Abyssus. After a couple...
fun, just like roboquest, but with a bit of sea and salt
Can't stop playing it.. it starts out difficult like all rougelikes should and stays difficult until you learn to master builds. I absolutely love that this game knows its style and fully sticks to it! the environments are stunning and I can't even begin to say how astonished I was with the animations for some fights and the intros.... I can't wait for more content and there is already so much to do.. MONEY WELL SPENT. Highly recommend!

Gun play feels good.
Art style is good.
Weapons and their customization is unique.
Music is nice.
Love how many unlockables there are
I will say I have run into problems when using steams interface, when shift tabbing it makes you run forward constantly unless you tab out or hit the windows button. Also when typing some simple words into the chatbox. such as "Something" will get filtered, if there was a way to turn off chat filters in the settings that would be the simplest fix and nice to have....
I feel like I'm playing as the big daddy from Bioshock at times in this. (with a gun) Full game absolutely worth it. Solo play is just as solid as coop. Devs just released a roadmap which includes lots of upcoming content and only paid dlc is for cosmetics and emotes. it is a Briney good time.
Game is fantastic but for some reason whenever I leave the game it does not save the guns/achievements I make in the game. The achievements are connected to my steam profile but not within the game. Has this happened to anyone else? Not sure how to fix this issue. UPDATE: It's all good now, it saves lol
Okay it's incredibly polished, the roguelike elements are great, the game runs flawlessly and looks fantastic even though it's like 3gb, I cannot say enough good things about it.
It pains me to mark this review as negative. I've been excited for this game, and it's so aesthetically pleasing, but it has many glaring issues. Pros: Sound/environment/weapon/enemy designs. It all makes for a very fun experience early on. The achievement/unlock system feels rewarding and is something to work towards. Now for cons. First off, there is no player level system, and thus no checks on what players you pair with and what lobbies you can join. Maxed out players can join noobs, and noobs can join max Deep Water 35 lobbies. The worst part about this is that in order to queue up for high Deep Water games, you'll have to sit there and kick newer players over and over (even when explicitly putting it in the lobby name). The most immediate issue is the variety. Every single run looks and plays the same. There isn't any "oh, I wonder what environment/bosses we'll see." Just Temple -> Gardens -> Sanctuary -> Royal. Same bosses, same 10 enemies for each area. No hidden rooms, no ...
