The gameplay wasn't bad and the overall story has a lot of interesting (if probably cliche) twists, but a lot of the dialog is incredibly cringe. I don't know if it's translation issues, culture shock, or what, but there are heavy incest overtones between two main NPCs and there's a lot of really juvenile and sleazy misogynistic crap with many of the male characters having nothing to say other than variations of "so-and-so has huge knockers" every chapter or "she's my soul mate, i knows it" about a woman they saw walking past in the street. Also an entire town that won't shut up about their assumptions that the player character and a female follower are doing the deed in a hotel room because they apparently can't even conceptualize the idea that people might just be travelling together. Oh and there's blatant sexual harassment from two women from said town toward the player character and the aforementioned follower. Like five minutes straight of it while you're outside a boss room tryi...

Combat and Story, Why Choose When You Can Enjoy Both
14 years in development and more than 1 year for revision, award-winning indie developer KEIZO gave his all into this work. The plot keeps twisting as characters growing in an ever expanding world; Classic themes like time travel and tons of spoilers are all custom-made with the developer's own style. In ASTLIBRA, Story elements are often made into game mechanics, for example, your soul-mate Karon is not just a sidekick to talk with.
Fruitful Endgame with Even More Challenges
With 6 difficulty options, all kinds of players can enjoy the combat system at their own pace, but no one can finish all those contents casually - even after you "beat" the game, the Postscript after Final Chapter will provide extra story, new adventure and fresh system, tapping the potential of skills, equipment, as well as your imagination.

User Reviews
I often find that with very positively reviewed games, people overhype and oversell them. I had heard nothing but great things about Astlibra both in its Steam reviews and elsewhere on the internet. If anything, this game is severely underhyped. It deserves every last bit of praise I've seen it get and then some. Astlibra Revision is genuinely one of the best games I've played in the last few years. The gameplay is fantastic, the OST is 10/10, the characters are wonderful, the enemy designs are great, and the story is an amazing ride packed with twists the whole way through. I'd even say the game is worth playing for the story alone even if all those other aspects were terrible, but it's genuinely the full package. It's very reminiscent of Vanillaware games and feels like a singleplayer RPG version of Dragon's Crown. I do have a few small criticisms of it. There are some puzzles in the game that you need to do to progress and they can be very obtuse or require you to talk to NPCs seve...
This game is amazing. The combat is fun, grinding is rewarding, the art is unique, the music is awesome, the number of ways you have to strengthen you character is impressive, and the story is insane in that it just keeps going. This game made me feel like only elden ring has before. Every time I thought I was at the end, it kept going, adding more layers and little by little progressing towards an even more satisfying ending. Time travel is almost impossible to do without running into consistency and logic problems, but I think this game does it well enough. The only negative is at the start of the game. I didn't get into the game at first because of the combat. At the start of the game it's very button-mashy and just feels like you have out-power the enemy, but it quickly moves beyond that when you start learning skills and battle techniques. Karon abilities also add an extra layer to game play, of which there are many, learned through mastering the huge number of different weapons...
Very fun gameplay, though it can get pretty grindy at points. (I was playing on normal, I'd imagine it'd be worse on higher difficulties). The real highlight of the game for me was the story. The insanity of the way the game escalates the stakes gave me EDF vibes. While it contains a lot of campy and classic anime tropes, for better or worse, it did have a lot of twists that caught me off guard as well. The music's pretty great, and I weirdly like art style with it's strange low quality real life photo assets alongside more traditional JRPG looks. Definitely would recommend
Good plot, followed with interesting plot twists, and a wholesome ending. Overall a must try game.
This is one of the most hidden gems games I have ever seen. The gameplay, the story, the characters, the art, the music, everything in this game was given such love and attention its astounding that this has flown under the radar and has not gotten any attention. Id love for any big YTer or Streamer to cover this game so it gets the attention they deserve. I cant praise this game enough and I really hope we get a Switch Physical for it, preferably with an artbook and OST. I cant praise this game enough, please try it!
As a game, Astlibra apparently took 15 years to be made, which included several resets of the project with occasional breaks in between. To start the game, KEIZO, the original creator, even learned to program on his own and worked for years to even start the project. Even then, the initial ideas for the game waited in the mind of KEIZO before he even began, making it possibly a 20-year-old project in the making. This is extremely important to highlight because so much about the actual game can be explained through this—how so many different ideas and themes found their way into the story and why there are so many ways to grow as a player. And all of that could’ve easily backfired, not just because of the time spent on the project but because so many different ideas were mixed into this particular game, which could have potentially ruined the overall fun. But the reason I managed to finish Astlibra is the same reason I decided to write this review: Because in the end, everything wo...
The ride never ends, the game. A little rusty in the beginning but it keeps gaining momentum until the end. You will get new mechanics even in the last hours of the game. Hitboxes are sometimes unfair. Also really good soundtrack.
Absolutely phenomenal game. The story, gameplay, dialogues, mechanics - everything is so good. A must-play for every metroidvania fan.
A great story, great gameplay loop, and the essense of 2010s anime humor. Its very enjoyable trip.
