About This Game

Brawl through the city in hard-hitting pixel art style inspired by arcade classics!

As a brutal battle for control of Fallen City’s criminal underworld rages, four strangers join forces to survive and reclaim the streets! With a ferocious wolf at their sides, these unlikely allies will face impossible odds. Along the way, motivations and past lives will collide, further testing their loyalty as well as their fighting skills. Only by binding together can they reach the final showdown that will decide who lives and who falls.

Inspired by arcade beat ’em ups of the late ’80s and early ’90s, Fallen City Brawl is a story of ambition and revenge told through intense side-scrolling pixel art action. Huge sprites and animated backgrounds breathe life into the dying city streets, while fighting mechanics offer uncommon depth with destructive combos, counters, air-throws, grappling, parries, special moves and “RIOT” supers! Animated cutscenes and a powerful soundtrack by famed composer Daniel Lindholm set the tone for urban mayhem, playable solo or with friends in local co-op!

Features:

 • Fight through 7 stages of arcade-inspired action!

 • Choose between 4 playable characters.

 • Execute combos and specials with deep hand-to-hand combat mechanics.

 • Pick up weapons like pipes, bats, knives, firearms, oil drums, chainsaws and more!

 • Clear the screen with special attacks by upgradeable mercenary backup.

 • Battle it out solo or with friends in local co-op.

 • Command a wolf companion or unleash him and watch the carnage!

 • Get in the mood for mayhem with a soundtrack by Daniel Lindholm.

If you're going in thinking Double Dragon Gaiden or Streets of Rage 4, your hopes will be dashed. This isn't even as good as the original Streets of Rage for the Mega Drive. Bare bones side scroller beat-em-up. Hit-box is terrible, controls are not responsive and feel stiff, every character feels the same, music is meh..hard pass, not even if it was on sale. Took the refund.

I love beat em ups. But this game has so many shortcomings with a lot of wasted potential. 1. Running attacks cost health. What were they thinking? 2. The enemies are either too strong or too weak. But one thing, everyone dies too fast. 3. There should be a way to compensate for using specials. 4. The movement in the game can be a bit lacking. 5. The super feels unnecessary. 6. The combo system is unfulfilling. It works nice in certain fights, but you have to constantly hit people. 7. The game is pretty short. Even for 15 dollars.

The Good: Uhh... ummm... I guess I'm always down for a new beater up I suppose? The Bad: Incredibly jank, royally fucked gameplay that gets basic beat'em up mechanics backwards, the hitboxes and hurtboxes are all kinds of nonsense, animations across the board are stiff and lacking. I have been hit by enemies literally doing nothing but standing. The music is forgettable and barely passes for beat'em up fare, but the biggest offender is the sprites. Horrifically clashing styles of character, object and background assets. It looks like someones M.U.G.E.N project slopped together. The Ugly: [GEMS]. The score numbers, let's take N.A.R.C and blow them up and multipy them by 100 (do yourself a favor, turn that garbage off)! The amount of frankenspriting from fighting game assets, especially The King Of Fighters (portrait sprite art). It's simply one of the most putrid looking beat'em ups I've ever seen.

Ok, so, this game is interesting. I think a lot of the critisicisms here in other reviews are definitely valid, I feel the game is being misunderstood. First off, it has been designed with score chasing in mind. So lots of enemies with low health that you are meant to juggle around and attempt to get as many hits in on as possible before they die to get your combo meter high to net you more gems and coins. Gems fill your super meter. There are 3 levels of supers. The first does a screen wide attack and gives you a 3x score multiplier. Once active, the meter ticks down from where you activated your super and for the duration, you have the 3x score multiplier applied. Level 2 super is basically a screen clearing attack (like a bomb in most bullet hell shmups). You also get a 5x multiplier to your score for the duration of the super. Level 3 super spawns in 4 ninja enemies. You also get a 5x score multiplier and you have the duration of the full gauge where the score multiplier is activ...
Forgotten Brawl: Empty-Calorie Beat-’Em-Up
Far from terrible, but a few missteps keep it from being a recommendation. It’s got that janky M.U.G.E.N. feel, much like Slave Zero X from last year—same chunky hitboxes, same floaty pacing. I just 1CC’d it on Hard expecting a little more, maybe a TLB, but nothing. Feels like a passion project made by some college students. Or a community mod for an already established game. It looks great though, I love the style. Overall, It's pretty easy. It feels easy because you always feel overpowered. Supers shred everything, and the default character (there's 4) starts with a shotgun that’s basically a god-tier keepaway tool. You can just run to one side of the screen and control the entire fight from there. Run toward them and juggle. Every fight (Including Bosses) can be cheesed by juggling them into a wall without ever letting them hit the floor. Seven stages feels like a bit much. By stage five, I was already feeling a sense ...

Only an hour in and it has soul so I will not return it. I will play it to completion, but it is severely jank. Some boss attack animations are unreadable and some of the lanes look like they line up but you whiff. Hitboxes are bigger than the sprites. I'm hoping for a patch.

Fun until the game just ends :( Was expecting some difficulty, but I finished it on my first try, and this was under an hour. If it was under an hour and had some replayability, I would not have refunded this. Game has a lot of love and is clearly inspired by the greats (SoR/Final Fight), but just doesn't have the lasting appeal, and needs something like 1. longer stages. 2. more stages. 3. More modes 4. Difficulty options (the game is too easy)

After beating the game three times in about 90 minutes (plus the tutorial, playing in the options, and watching the seemingly unskippable credits) I wasn't sure if I would recommend this game or not. Ultimately, is the game fun? Honestly, kinda yeah; the combo system gives you a huge window to deal damage to make up for low damage of each hit, the weapon system is a good way to differentiate characters, and the Gem/Coin system is genuinely really smart risk/reward design that gives the player the ability to go for 1CCs in multiple different ways (either dealing with enemy groups with Riots or pushing for maximum coins to get Lives). When the game works, it feels good, and the good OST helps punctuate that. That said, I'm not recommending it because I think the bad outweighs the good here, but I enjoyed it enough to not refund it because I can tell the devs care about this genre. Consider the following constructive criticism. Firstly, I need to be honest: this game is UGLY. The sprites...

After a long delay, Fallen City Brawl from Fallen City Studio and published by Eastasiasoft delivers a gritty, arcade-style beat-’em-up that feels straight out of the late '80s or early ’90s. It’s short, but that’s always been part of the appeal of games in this genre. With big detailed sprites, a varied set of characters, an incredible soundtrack, combos, special attacks, and coin collecting, it keeps you fighting to the very end. It captures the spirit of the beat 'em up genre perfectly, and it was definitely worth the wait.
