About This Game

Many moons ago

In 1997, the now legendary anti-RPG “moon” launched in Japan.
Now, under the watchful eye of its original creators, it's finally on Steam, in English!

Have you ever felt it odd that the heroes of RPGs go around opening villagers' closets and stealing from them? Or that they travel the world indiscriminately killing all monsters they meet? This game looks at the RPGs we all know and love from a new perspective.

Story

One moon-lit night, a young boy is sucked into the depths of his television set whilst playing a video game.

He falls into a place called 'Moon World',
and thus begins a search for love in order to recover the lost moonlight.
Here, the mighty hero of Moon World murders innocent animals for experience,
but the boy's growth comes from saving the souls of the animals and gathering the love in the world.

Yes, in this game, you level up by loving, not fighting.
The inhabitants of this world are all unique. Observe their daily lives and learn where they hide their secret love.
"Now, please, open the door!"

An RPG without battles - Save the monster's souls -

All the monsters killed by the 'hero' are actually just innocent animals. As you explore the game, you will encounter the bodies of these pitiful creatures. But, if the boy can catch their souls, they can be saved.

A living, breathing world! - Peek into the secret lives of the NPCs -

Moon World's residents go about their routine lives, depending on the time and day. The florist goes to work in the morning, and the castle guards arrive at their posts. Some folks have secret midnight hobbies, and others just spend their days fishing.

MD System - Choose your own soundtrack -

In moon, you can choose your own music. By using the special music playing Moon Disc (MD) function which appears in the game, you can walk around the map listening to the tracks you like in the order you set them.

If you're interested in games with historical significance, and you don't consider aged gameplay too great of a barrier when exploring that interest, then moon is a must-play. moon is a game that was decades ahead of its time in its themes and presentation of them, while also boasting a unique visual and audio style. The main caveat to this is that progression through the game is often arbitrary. Use a guide when hitting a roadblock because you'll find that the solution is oftentimes being in a specific place at a specific time, showing a specific NPC a specific item. In other words, its a game that feels like its from 1997+/- in some ways, and from 2017+/- in others. Enthusiasts shouldn't miss it, but casual enjoyers should perhaps wait for Stray Children (the upcoming spiritual successor) instead.

I really, REALLY loved this game, you can actually feel the love of the people who were making it, the characters are fun, the art is fun, the music is fun, even walking in this game is fun, the only bad thing people always says is how the game is too obtuse or cryptic, BUT... the game is obtuse and cryptic, the game use that as way to force you to observe and interact with the world, with his people, the game wants you to be one with it, and i think that really awesome, because that way you too can fall in love with this amazing piece of art. PD: if you liked this game, love-de-lic and the people who worked there has other more amazing games like this one, and i hope all of them can be localized so people can appreciate them as they deserve

One of my favorite games of all time - finished this on Switch and bought it here just to support. There really is nothing else like this game - it feels like a playable fever dream, from the incredible translation by the great Tim Rogers, to the soundtrack, to the weird, timed events and odd characters. You'll want a guide for this but use it only if you're getting annoyed - getting lost in this game is a trip. Screw that fishing minigame, though. Seriously.
