COTTOn Boomerang - Saturn Tribute

My initial impressions: Outside of some slowdown on the title screen, I haven't really noticed that many issues with the emulation of this game, and there's seemingly some work that has been done on combating interlacing (RetroArch for example has a lot of combing artifacts when running this game under Beetle Saturn). There's some nifty screen options, such as anti-aliasing to combat the screen dithering effects used, and a mild scanline effect (Even if I personally would prefer something like a CRT Lottes shader) that I didn't notice on the character select screen, but is noticeable in-game. The slow mode toggle is a neat addition, even if it makes the tea-time sections more difficult. Mixed with achievement support, and button based remapping (Which is probably the most you are going to get out of a game running through emulation), this is not a bad way of playing the game so far (I've heard that the input lag issue with the Switch version was fixed, and I have nothing to report her...

Do not waste your money on this abysmal port. It's honestly insulting that they're charging this much for such a bad port. The sound issues are being downplayed, the game is completely unplayable unless you want your eardrums to explode from all the static and crackling. The game itself is fun but not worth the price. Just get Deathsmiles or literally...... any other SHMUP.

The game runs well enough, obscene and unacceptable input lag aside. What really pushes this over the edge is the audio emulation, which is absolutely horrendous. Avoid.

This is actually a remixed version of Cotton 2 with some additional content. Originally running on ST-V, this is an excellently presented arcade game. I can't quite call it a classic, but it comes close if you are from that era. This port has decent features, easy achievements, online leaderboards, several difficulty options and the ability to rewind/save progress. There are some technical issues with the port, some slowdown can occur - and you will have to disable the sprite smoothing filter. Still a thumbs up from me, the Saturn Tribute series is criminally overlooked on Steam!

The same review was posted on the "Cotton 2 - Saturn tribute" game (as it suffers from the exact same issues) ----- This is a bad PC release. Basically this is just the Japanese Sega Saturn rom built in with a proprietary emulator. I mean this is not bad per se, I would rather have more old game legally accessible this way than not having them. The problem is when you encrypt the rom itself, preventing the pc gamers to mod it in any way and denying the possibility to play it legally on our Sega Saturns, not sure what is the problem of the company with that. Maybe they want to limit their own proprietary emulator to play this rom? Anyway there are much better ways to handle that (like checking what rom is actually being loaded) and even this is stupid because there are much better performing Sega Saturn emulators freely available on the pc if anyone would have the idea of playing other roms on it. Cotton is a series of top notch shoot 'em up (or in this case cute 'em up) games. I have played Cotton 100% on Super Famicom countless times and it never gets old. This entry incorporates some interesting new mechanics such as having a 3 character team and chain attacks. I like the way you level up your character(s) through the crystal-like collectibles in these games. I always enjoy the music in this franchise as well. Fun game.

Nice, the only thing I notice is some slight crackling with the audio, but a very minor issue. Very welcome addition of a rapid-shot option as my hands can't take hammering the button. Excellent game all in all, and this is a pretty good port.

A great port of a great game. To start the story and cut scenes are still in Japanese but the game play is perfect. Do I recommend the game, That is a BIG YES, it is cheaper then trying to get the Saturn version( If you plan to buy it) Plus the Saturn version is also in Japanese. I have the Full Saturn Tribute here on Steam and feel that City Connection is doing a great job on the Ports, I do wish they would also put these on the Windows store. I know I'm weird but I like the Windows store.
