Quick Overview
Set in Dry Creek Alaska, Noctem is a first-person psychological horror game depicting the story of Amelia and the horror she discovers upon her return to her childhood home. I truly wanted to like the story, but it feels incomplete, and the atmosphere is destroyed upon the introduction of the enemy monster. Overall, it's a valiant attempt that unfortunately falls flat on the ground. About This Game
Noctem is a psychological horror game with an element of some real life experiences. What we are trying to achieve, is to give you an immersive experience outside of what you can see in your screen and for that reason we invest mostly in an atmosphere and the ambience.
Noctem is set in a little town in Alaska, with beautiful nature and mostly foggy, a place that strange things happen daily. There are whispers about the Alaska Triangle which connects the states of Anchorage, Juneau and Barrow creating a triangle in which many people have disappeared and most of them have never been found. There are many theories behind this phenomenon, but no one is willing to speak about it. People disappear and most of them remain lost. Some say they died, some say they left... Others are still searching for them, to this day. The question is, where are they?
The game takes place in Dry Creek which is a little town inside that triangle. Amelia Hudson used to live in there with her family, right before she moved to England to study writing. While she was 14 years old her little brother, Tommy, was diagnosed with leukemia. After two years, he died. Her mother couldn't bare the pain and 8 months later, she commits suicide.
Four years after the tragedy, Amelia was ready to move to England to study writing. But at the time she was there, she found out that her father died under mysterious circumstances in their house. She attended the funeral and devastated as she was, returned to England to continue her studies. The time of graduation was close and Amelia needed to complete her thesis. She decided to return home in order to have quiet and be able to concentrate.
By the time she arrives though, she knows that something is wrong. She could feel that she was not alone in the house. Someone or something was messing with her head, her thoughts, her reality. Something is happening that is beyond any human understanding. Can she escape reality?
Humans haven’t yet explained the complexity behind the theories of the parallel universes, the only thing we can do, is only imagine.
⦁ Interactive environment. Player is able to open doors, drawers, cabinets etc. with the mouse... Slower or faster...You decide what is best for you!
⦁ Pick up items and interact with them.
⦁ Carry items in inventory.
⦁ Be careful with the anxiety level. Amelia has asthma so you need to pick up inhalers and keep her relaxed.
⦁ Read and collect letters, notes, photographs and bring together all the pieces to reveal the story.

This is a unity slog, through and through. I am definitely wondering if the devs paid to have positive steam reviews posted on this, because the game did in fact start off wonderful and creepy, but quickly turned into find the key and items simulator, with a breakable AI monster. Indie or not, this is not excuse for something that should be priced at least at 8 dollars permanetly. If you like looking at your game in blue tint for half of the playthrough, you are in fact in luck. I'd suggest not getting this, if you want something that doesnt seem as if padded for time so you can't return it before 2 hrs...
I'm gonna start by saying that I would 100% recommend this game to anyone who is interested in the horror genre and since it is an indie game it gets bonus points from me. As someone who is familiar with the theme the story of the game presents, I found it rather interesting. Not your typical / predictable story we are so accustomed to seeing. I would say that as a player, the story that games present is of great importance to me and can either make or break a game in my opinion. This one did it right though and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next. Loved the challenges and the twists. Keeps you on your toes and it adds to the overall pace and flow of the game. Finding the clues feels organic. I'm definitely interested in finding out what's gonna happen next although I am already sweating! (these paintings are gonna be the end of me)
I played this on stream today and it was an absolute blast! Everyone loved it!
I really like this Noctem game. very tense atmosphere, very interesting puzzles to complete, fear of having to be chased by big monsters, it makes this game exciting. But there are some bugs in this game where the monster is stuck in one place. By the way I highly recommend this game This is my experience playing this noctem game https://youtu.be/0xHLtgydUCA
Okay lets be honest, I wouldn't recommend buying this game (at a max get it from sale). And simply put the reason being that it's extremely tedious and time consuming, without you feeling that you're making any kind of progress. Basically your only guides are using common sense to search the house multiple times over and over again, and the VERY "helpful" checklist in your inventory. The game hugely suffers from lack of guidance in short. The story itself doesn't get explained that much IMO, sure you get some sort of "backstory" when starting, however that gets really abruptly ended with the word "but.." and that's it, then the MC keeps talking about probably her dad... "my dad this" "my dad that", and already being frustrated with the game, I couldn't care less about the "Story". The game also suffers from very "cheap" and not that well put together animations. When the
monster that chases you, gets you, you literally stare at the monster aannd.... you select what save you ...
A truly great indie game! You can tell right off the bat that this game is made with love. So much attention to detail from the level design, the story, the music etc. The story is engaging and the ambience immerses you right in. It's fun,it's scary and it's also beautiful! Kuddos to the small team of super talented people who created this.
An incredible effort from a small indie team. Excellent atmosphere and feeling. Gives a Stranger Things vibe and needs some effort and thinking to go through it. Very immersive scene in the interior. Check it out.
Very clever scene setting, beautiful game
Great concept and atmosphere! Where's my fucking inhaler?
