My Early Hours review of – Persona 5 Royal - Went to school. - Got framed for assault. - Entered another dimension. - Cat told me to commit crimes. - Now I fight monsters with the power of friendship and teenage rage. - Also I’m failing math just like in real life. I don’t know what’s happening and where the game is going but it’s stylish as hell and I can hear jazz music in my blood. Send help—or don’t. I’m too busy stealing hearts. 10/10 chaos. Would persona again.

Im gonna be honest. When I played this game I was at a really low point. I felt like I couldn't connect with the people around me, I felt like I was alone, ugly, unlovable, etc. This game helped with that... Like... A LOT. It's not even a stretch to say that I owe my current self to this game, and potentially a lot more. As pathetic as it sounds this game helped me feel understood. It felt good to be with the phantom thieves, and helped me understand what a good friends feel like. Eventually I found friends of my own. Thanks to this game I felt motivated to do better. Be better. So thanks persona 5.
This game is very meaningful In the prologue, the game states that the story is purely fictional and has no relevance to reality. But what I want to say is that the dark and cruel social problems are in reality. Public officials abuse their power, celebrities steal wealth, underground forces collude with officials and businessmen, and unscrupulous companies exploit their employees. All of these are inseparable from the support of the government The game describes a country that has twisted and turned to dictatorship, where politicians manipulate people's hearts and monopolize power,Oppressed young people rise up in rebellion There is no doubt that this game is great
I have now beaten all modern Persona games as well as Metaphor. There is a hole in my heart. I really liked this game, especially the main cast. Joker is a badass in the anime scenes and some dialogue choices throughout the game, I think he is my favourite of the Persona MC's - but this is not my favourite Persona game. Yusuke and Ryuji make a great set of 'bro' characters, and have hilarious dialogues throughout the game. I even clipped "That was truly cringe worthy" from Yusuke to use on a soundboard. I loved Akechi's shift in dialogue towards the end of the game, and his voice acting was superb. Dialogue is well written for the most part excusing a few extremely dumb lines (
e.g. Ann asking if Futaba is depressed because of her mothers suicide... ofc she is, Ann
), and the music is top notch. Visuals are great, I can see where the visuals for P3R and Metaphor came from and I liked the red/black tones and jazzy vibes. The biggest issue I had (still a sma...
1000/10 taking the time to play P5R at my own pace was super worth it as i was able to maximise what the game has to offer, from witnessing the stories of each significant character, to playing out the mechanics of the game. if i could go back in time to experience this from the very beginning once more, i would. 1000% recommend to anyone who has any general interest in JRPGs and/or turn-based gameplay! its PEAK.
probably not even halfway done but this is like actually so peak one of the best games ive ever played and i havent even made it to the fourth palace yet
It's difficult to provide a brief review of this game due to just how dense it is (playtime normally varies from 80-100 hours for the average player). That being said, Persona 5 Royal is an enthralling experience that weaves together great visuals, music, story, and characters into one amazing game. If you've played the original I still recommend picking this one up, as it adds some new developments to the story, that I believe re-contextualizes and improves the story massively, while also providing some quality of life improvements. The only complaint that I have with this game is it's difficulty, with combat not being the most engaging after getting past the "tutorial" section of the game (and actually becoming easier if you play on Merciless due to how the weakness multiplier is changed). Persona 5 Royal, while not being a perfect game by any means, has become my favorite game of all time and has provided me with an experience I will never forget.
Pro: + Top of the class presentation, the visuals, the vibes, the anime art are all 10/10 + One of the best soundtracks in gaming history + Well written and likable cast of characters, really memorable and interesting + The Persona 'creature collecting and training' mechanic is fun and the design of most personas is excellent + Some of the student slice of life part of the story are really well written Cons: - This is not a game, this is at most a visual novel, of my 150 hours playtrough maybe 20% tops is actual gameplay - Overbloated and overpadded to an infuriating degree, the game will exhaust you with cutscene after cutscene after cutscene that most of the time repeat the same concepts over and over and over again, seriously adding at least 40 hours of absolute infuriating drivel to the playtrough - While the main characters are well written and likable, the villains are forgettable jokes, with the exception of the first two Palace Lords, the actual main villains are banale...
I wanted to write this after I finish the game, but I'm inpatient lol
How I was Introduced
(because that matters or something...) Let me start off by saying this: I know nothing about this series. Somehow, all my life I've managed to avoid everything and everything about this game series. So when someone I knew started playing this I was like 'oh cool funny anime game that looks like FFVII" (I also know nothing about FF, dont judge me) and that was the end of that. They highly recommended the game, but I never really took interest in it. Then DLC for SSBU for this game came out and I said
"Woah.. Joker looks sick and IS THAT A CAT CAR?"
So, after a couple years spent on SSBU, someone else I knew started talking to me about this game out of the blue. This only made me think 'What is this game?' So I started doing research. Note, after all this research, I STILL somehow avoided spoilers. People online are really conflicted about whi...
I first played Persona 5 in 2019, after Joker was announced for Smash. Persona has become my favourite franchise ever because of that one decision. Persona 5 (and Persona 5 Royal) are part of my top games of all time. Even if people say the story might be bad at times. Even if the combat doesn't feel good to some people. This game truly opened my eyes into seeing what games could actually be. Six to seven years later and this game is still incredibly amazing. I spent over 250 hours on the original on PS4, then 150 on my Switch when I played Royal. This game has changed my life. I will continue to love this franchise to the end. No matter how long it takes for the next game, I will at least give each game a try. Persona 5 is incredible. Please play Persona, or give it a try, and if it's not for you, that's okay.
