MonkeyoChaos Curator Page
This is one of those games where I wish there was a sideways thumb rather than just a thumbs up or down. It's not bad...but it's not great. Pretty basic bullet-hell space shooter. Looks good, sounds good, the soundtrack is pretty solid, and plays fine. There are 5 stages, each one with an easy/medium/hard locked behind completing 4 achievements. There are upgrades you can buy between stages/deaths to upgrade your shields/firepower and various bombs and powerups. One of my main issues with the game is that there is little to no difference between the different difficulties. At least I didn't notice any. Which makes for a lack of content when there are 5 stages but all 3 difficulty levels feel the same. Maybe an hour or so worth of content unless you really are into it and want to unlock every difficulty for every level. Full gameplay/review/thoughts: https://www.y...

I am sorry, i have to be the negative one here. This game is everything, but fun... it's not even close to be fun. My main problem is, this game cannot even decide, what it's meant to be - an euro shmup, or a classic arcade type shooter. These are different type of games, and you cannot do both. In X-force Genesis, u have an upgrade system - like in any euroshmup - but it feels ABSOLUTELY USELESS, becouse i maxed out the shield, and 1 or 2 bullet still means game over... So what's the point of the shields anyway? Its simply just a one shot - one kill arcade... But if we go down on the arcade road... it fails even bigger. The enemy patterns are terrible... they coming in ZIG-ZAG. Yeah, literally, they switch directions in an instant, and they re moving in Z patterns. These routes just look cheap... In a good arcade games, where you die from 1 single bullet, there are very clean, visible bullet patterns... Oh boy, the bullet patterns here (if they even exist) are some of the worst i...

First played on Switch. Liked for mostly silly reasons. Steam version was more revealing. For a shmup that can't really decide what kind it is, even plowing through with your Forces (expectation, I think) is difficult due strange balance, or lack of. Shield power-up abuse is a blessing, since it takes a moment to dissipate and is upgradeable, but keep in mind that like your ship, and any truly old retro shmup, takes damage upon the slightest kiss. Ofc, if you don't mind grinding the handful of stages available, though clearing tasks opens access to higher difficulties and better payouts, it will take fewer rounds to max out energy or develop a working payload. Mind you, in flight P-ups can still be hard to tell, but they're usually useful. Still, far more issues present: (1) Preset controls, keyboard only (gamepad if lucky). WASD for movement, arrows for drones /bomb. Mouse would be real handy, dunno why not. Pads can be switched with the right Steam tools and I recommend this. (2) ...
