About This Game

Rise up. Fight back.

Gear up to fight your way through the ranks of an insidious cult. Their wretched minds twisted by the will of an unseen entity, you'll find just as much lead flying back as you dish out, so you'll have to run, slide, dodge, and make use of your environment to survive in this old-school-inspired shooter.

CULTIC: Chapter One includes 10 maps full of blood, grit, and of course, cultists. After completing the story, you can test your skills in the wave-based Survival Mode, also included with Chapter One.

Get a taste of Chapter Two with the newly added Interlude story map!

Chapter Two will be available as paid DLC at a future date, and will continue the story of CULTIC!

CULTIC gives you the freedom to approach combat your way. You can run in guns blazing, running, jumping, sliding, and dodging to keep out of harms way. If you prefer a slower approach, you can lay traps, let your enemies come to you, and pick them off from the safety of cover. Maybe you prefer to weave in between your foes, leading their attacks towards each other, and turning them against one another. With a full arsenal of mid-century firearms and explosives, you'll be well equipped to slaughter everything in your path - provided you don't get slaughtered first.

Combat in CULTIC is fast and deadly. Well-placed shots can take your enemies - and yourself - out of the game quickly. Keep on the move or stick to cover, and use your arsenal wisely to stay alive as you fight your way through cult territory.

CULTIC was styled to feel like a throwback to the shooters of yore, but with the advantages of a modern engine, such as physics, lighting, and a fully 3D game world. The gameplay, audio design, and art are all stylized to create a unique experience.

It’s a boomshoot masterpiece. The level design is the real star here, with intricate and sprawling areas that reward exploration. You never feel lost and every place feels logical and like it makes sense to the setting. The enemies are excellent, requiring thoughtful approaches. They will cook you if you’re not being intentional. Gunplay is *chefs kiss* with every weapon feeling delightful. The rifles feel like cheating when you line up some poor fool’s noggin and pop it like a ripe watermelon before he knows you’re there. And the art style… who would have known a muddy mix of brown, blue, orange would sing like this? It drips atmosphere and I found moments genuinely creepy. That it’s made by one person is not actually surprising: the clarity and singleness of vision here is so evident. And it pays off.

I just realized I never wrote a review for this game, CULTIC is probably THE best example I've ever seen of a "modern" boomer shooter. It takes inspiration from BLOOD, DOOM, and Early Resident Evil titles in such a fantastic way. The cultists and creatures you fight are all designed really well and bounce off eachother leading to a great gameplay loop in firefights that reminds me of the best of this genre has to offer. Story is there and pretty good, absolutely love the vibes and feeling the game gives you. Your ascension from some random detective the cultists threw in a hole to rot, to a massive existential threat to their plans feels amazing to read the notes and other story elements as you blast your way through their operation is great.

I don't like it. I'd rather play BLOOD on repeat.

It's RE4 as a boomer shooter meaning it's basically perfect.

I was on call when it happened, It was the evening of the 14th, August. We were streaming games at each other, and foolish naive me, I got a sudden guttural craving for something "crunchy" a shooter without the modern sensibilities of your CoDs or CSGO2s, or their high opperational cost. So I dug through my wishlist for something to sate my urges and there it was "CULTIC", "It looks alright" I thought "It's pretty cool" says my dear friend. And there a new game purchased, installed, and booted in what felt like no time at all. I meddled with controls and video settings and accidentally started the wrong part of the game. But before I knew it I began a new save file. awakening in a pile of bodies, down a path I passed under a metallic fence and before my eyes there stood a run down vehicle reminiscent of a kaleidoscope of other old motor-cars, it was parked and forgotten just outside the run down asylum in which lied my objective. I stepped closer and was taken aback by my crosshair cha...

Pretty good shooter. I wouldn't put it up with the best ones, but it's certainly worth a play-through. I liked the Blood inspiration. The levels were well designed and fun to work my way through. Enjoyable setting, with strong art that sets the tone. There were two parts I felt were weak. The first is the enemy variety. You are fighting the same guys the whole way. Guy-with-hatchet. Guy-with-gun. Maybe there's a group of three hatchet guys and one gun guy. Maybe two hatchet guys and two gun guys. Maybe there's a sniper in the back. Maybe there's the occasional ghost enemy. All-in-all, not enough variation between encounters. While the levels are different, you are going through the same encounters ad infinitum with a different backdrop. The second weak spot is the weapon upgrades. They are largely the same from weapon to weapon. So the first one is +damage, the second one is +capacity, etc. There are some upgrades that change the weapon a little (like knockback for the shotgun), bu...

Great game. Very nostalgic. Been about a year since any major update though. Takes some tweaking with voltage and settings to make it run smooth at 60fps on the Steamdeck. Can't wait for Chapter 2
