About This Game

Exogate Initiative is a management/base-building game that’ll take you from a humble rec room to the edge of creation. In the near future, a new technology allows us to travel instantly to anywhere in the universe via portals known as Exogates. An international initiative is created to develop these portals and explore the worlds beyond.

As head of the initiative, you’ll lead mankind into the vast unknown, where we never dreamed to tread.

Plan, excavate and build a sprawling underground research facility.

 • Dig anywhere on the map & add new rooms and specialised equipment as the initiative grows in scope.

 • Make a home away from home! You will need to provide for your team's emotional and physical needs.

 • Defend your base from hostile aliens and study them to unlock new weapons

Recruit, train and manage specialists from all around the universe.

 • Recruit explorers, known as ‘Gaters’ (humans or aliens), to explore and study the universe. Gaters are fully autonomous and come with a unique background.

 • Unlock new classes as you play. You’ll need scientists to study flora and fauna, scholars to decipher, soldiers to keep everyone safe and more.

 • Care for your team as they face the unknown. Ensure they have the right equipment, as well as food, shelter and emotional support.

 • Team members will develop relationships with each other and will mourn when someone dies.

Assemble a team of experts and send them across the universe through the Exogate.

 • Resist, defeat and negotiate with other factions thanks to a dedicated 4X gameplay.

 • Gaters perform missions autonomously but will check in with you for crucial decisions. Interact with our explorers, make life-to-death decisions and discover endless possible outcomes

 • Make contact with alien life, and write reports about your discovery to secure financing.

 • Teams will return with samples that can be developed into valuable new technology. Earn money for your investors and help the initiative grow.

This game is a mixed bag, but not irredeemably so. The base management is pretty good, and you have numerous research options for removing some of the pain as you continue along. The exploration and leveling systems are reasonable. They lack depth, unfortunately, but they're sufficient to keep attention for a bit. Where the game falls flat on its face is combat. There's no strategy. You throw your bulk against the enemy's bulk and then the biggest bulk wins. If you want to invade, you're guaranteed to lose 1-2 soldiers every time. This leads to a really stupid ideal strategy where you pack two level 1s into your stack of soldiers because the lowest level ones get shot first. When you win after losing both, you buy two more and repeat the process. Base invasions are also pointless mechanically. They only come through the gate, so you just drop soldiers in front and they shoot until the enemies die. That's it. If the game included even a primitive tactical turn-based combat s...

I liked this game, but I will give it thumbs down because: Bugs: - OnceI had a bug, which corrupted my save file. I noticed it very late and needed to go back several save files loosing progress. - It needs to be restarted once in several hours because of something like memory leak - Sometimes when squarbs attack your base, the last one is killed, but attack does not stop and you need to reload Unbalanced and grindy endgame: - Outposts are expensive and useless. Outpost level 3 is destroyed by AI with only one injured member. What a joke. - I almost always lose a battle when using auto-resolve (didn't like this text version of a battle) - When you have two enemies, confrontation becomes a grind of influence and diplomatic fight - Money is easy to come by. Patent mechanics is very easy to use.
The only problem for Exogate is the gate itself.
First of all, this game is feel like another game series call "Evil Genius". The concept is very familiar, you build the base, send people to mission, and defend it once in a while. There are many mechanic that make it feel unique form Evil Genius, but overall it much more simple. So, you build your base with a room for your staff to sleep, eat, relax, and train. One the core function rooms are ready, you send your people to gather sample like plant, animal, or ore from the other side of the gate. Once you do that, you research it and write the patent to sell it to the world or just sell the refining ore you gather, and this is your main source of income in this game. The only expense is your staff salary, once you gather some budget, you just use it to upgrade your base for other stuff, and this is your main core loop. But the most annoying part for me is the gate itself. When you send your unit out through the gate, ...

Good base builder with stargate vibes. Early and mid game are really fun but the end game is missing something. Had to put it down because it didn't seem like the combat / diplomatic missions are really fleshed out completely. Sending max teams of 5 with 10/10 gaters yields nothing...

Lots of potential and good core gameplay loop. Strong Stargate/Evil Genius vibes. Hope they flesh out the late game as it can get stale.

This game scratches an itch I did not know I had. I didn't know I needed a fun Stargate SG-1/Evil Genius crossover game but I did. Had a great time with this game, its surprisingly polished and just a load of fun. Strong replay value too,

It's good, but lacking in some aspects. You can only have 50 people unless you override that setting. At over 60 people the game starts having serious issues even on a good rig. 50 people might be enough, but with the way wars and everything works, I found I needed the extra manpower to keep everything afloat. Then there's the victory conditions. There's no warning for losing the game to one of the conditions revolving around researching many cultures of aliens. I just lost a long game instantly to a race which I would've beaten in war if my ally hadn't made peace with them without my approval. But if you want to make peace with someone and your ally doesn't, you just can't unless you break the alliance. Then there's the micromanagement part which again is an issue if you don't have enough people to put into teams you want to have doing recurring missions. The gameplay itself is good, base building too, research tree done well. All in all I feel like I got my money's worth out of i...

A nice little game, with its flaws, but also an enjoyable complexity. Finding out what you can or should do is interesting in its own rights. A job of love, and you can see it :).
