About the Game

The three time IGF award nominated 1000xRESIST is a thrilling sci-fi adventure. 1000 years in the future, humanity is all but extinguished and a disease spread by an alien occupation keeps the survivors underground. You are Watcher. You dutifully fulfil your purpose in service of the ALLMOTHER, until the day you learn a shocking secret that changes everything.

In the near future we learn we are not alone in the universe. A mysterious alien race of giant entities arrives. We call them the Occupants.

They are not hostile, but it doesn’t matter. Their arrival is a death sentence. Humanity is wiped out in a matter of months, succumbing to a disease the Occupants have brought to our planet.

There is one survivor, a teenage girl called Iris. Somehow she is immune.

1000 years later. Iris is not only immune but immortal. She has birthed a new society consisting exclusively of her own clones.

She calls them Sisters. They call her the ALLMOTHER.

Unlike the ALLMOTHER, the sisters are not immune. They must wear masks 24/7 to avoid breathing the diseased air even in the Orchard - an underground bunker where they live in constant fear of an Occupant attack.

The ALLMOTHER lives in her own compound on the front line of the war with the Occupants. All Sisters dream of one day being able to take the train and join her in the fight.

Within the Orchard, every sister has an assigned function, while six sisters have special roles to play…

Principal - Head of administration and oversight of the Orchard

Bang Bang Fire - Head of military

Knower - Head of knowledge preservation

Fixer - Head of engineering

Healer - Head of medical and cloning

And you - the new Watcher.

Your role is unique. You have the great privilege of reliving and interpreting the memories of the ALLMOTHER through a process known as Communion, made possible by Secretary, your floating AI companion.

As the game begins, you are excited to embark on your first Communion.

But all is not well.

Your closest sister, Fixer, comes to you with a dangerous revelation. You have been lied to. The ALLMOTHER is not what she claims to be.

Fixer’s claims rock the foundations of your world, throwing everything you know and believe into doubt.

After Fixer is executed for her treason, it falls to you to discover the truth.

Dive into the memories of the ALLMOTHER.

Explore pivotal moments in her life from high school days and the arrival of the Occupants to the creation of the Orchard and the birth of the first sisters.

Jump back and forth through moments in time within these memories to solve puzzles and access locked off areas and secrets.

In between Communions, explore the Orchard - a large underground hub area which houses you and your sisters, has many characters to speak to, and holds many things to uncover.

Find the truth and reclaim your legacy.

Experience perspective shifts both literal and metaphorical as the game blends between 3rd person adventure, visual novel and first person walking simulator while throwing twists, turns and revelations at you until you question everything you think you know.

Born from an eclectic set of inspirations, including the games of Yoko Taro (NieR:Automata), the anime of Satoshi Kon (Perfect Blue) and Naoko Yamada (A Silent Voice), and even the theatre of Robert Wilson (Einstein on the Beach), 1000xRESIST tells a story in ways only a game can while simultaneously bringing fresh ideas to interactive storytelling from theatre, dance, performance art, and cinema.

Enjoy more than 10 hours of playtime brought to life with over 15,000 lines of fully voiced dialogue from a brilliant cast of Asian-Canadian actors and an incredible soundtrack from two composers.

ABOUT THE DEVELOPER

1000xRESIST is created by sunset visitor 斜陽過客, an independent studio based in Vancouver (Canada) dedicated to telling diverse stories through the lens of speculative fiction. We are a group of majority Asian-Canadian diaspora creators with a decade of experience in dance, theatre, music, film, visual arts, and new media arts, bringing our background in the experimental performing arts to interactive media.

Came into this thinking it would be another great story packaged in video game format like it was with nier automata. It is not that. Game play wise you're looking at a glorified visual novel with walking in one of the most confusing central hubs I've had the pleasure of experiencing, yet I can't say it would have been any better with more active game play. This is because the game sets out to tell a story, and that is exactly what it does absolutely beautifully, and would not really benefit from fighting enemies. If you are someone this story resonates with, it will deeply affect you with it's plethora of memorable lines throughout the dialogue. And those who do not deeply resonate with the story-like myself-are gonna find themselves looking at what could be one of the most layered and varied stories, and having it affect the way they look at life (at least for like a week). tldr: no real game play, but story good

I have not loved a game as much as I have loved 1KxR; you cry, you love, you feel, you get mad, you move on, you forgive, and learn that aliens don’t like Bach. One of the best narratives and pieces of fiction ever. A game that will live in your head and heart rent-free until death. The true GOTY. If you know anyone who loves sci-fi and/or doomed yuri, recommend them 1000xResist (and if not, recommend it anyway)

Not a bad game, but not a good game for me either. Have to use a negative review since the overwhelmingly positive reviews made me think I was getting into an amazing game and experience. It's a walking simulator, with a relatively decent story, but a bit too much bloat. If the character's walking speed was 1.5 faster I may have enjoyed this game a bit more, if the garden map made a bit more sense, I may have enjoyed this game more... but there is too much nothing going on between chapters, which gets incremented by the slow moving speed and how easy is to get lost. You may enjoy this, but depends on taste. That said, there is a couple of really powerful messages in this story. The dad for example said something extremely profound that I will probably remember for a while, and the mom also had a couple of important moments. This is a story someone wanted/needed to share, and the story itself is interesting, just accept there is a lot of unneeded "gameplay" in between the story ele...

Dunno man, aside from being emotionally brutal, this had me revisit many of my own beliefs, look at them through completely new lenses. Not many games do that. Actually not many pieces of art do that, or at least don't do that as well as this game. PLAY THIS GAME.

A game that tells a complex story with deep themes and allegories. There's barely any gameplay to be found here, it's basically a book/movie in video game form.

The 5 minutes of game play is worth the 10 hours of buildup.

At it's core gameplay, this is effectively a walking simulator where most of your choice comes into play for dialogue options and how deeply you interact with other characters. However, the story is very, very good which allows this to shine as a title i'd recommend to other to pick up.

This is basically an interactive sci-fi novel, but it's a good sci-fi novel so I recommend it. Don't be fooled by the bright animey art-style, the story itself is quite mature, though I'm not the best to explain the themes properly, look at other reviews for that. The few gameplay elements that are there, are fun. I just wish the animation budget was a bit higher because the characters can fill a bit stiff (biggest thing that feels weird but you gradually get used to is the absence of lip-synching) and the voice acting, while extensive, can't really fix this (i.e. a character screams but doesn't animate much difference, feels weird). The maps can feel like a labyrinth but I accepted that as a navigational challenge, if that was the developer's vision then I can't see it as a flaw. Lastly, music is good and environments, while feeling a bit too bright sometimes, are well done. So again, recommended, and if you're looking for an unique experience this is an excellent choice.

This is one of the most violent games I've ever played. There is no combat in it. You will be gutted like a fish and tossed into the bowl. It takes a very specific type of person to appreciate 1000x resist to its fullest and it is very much not me. I am not from anywhere near Hong Kong and the only things I knew about it were some half-forgotten news headlines. The familial expectations and generational trauma in my life are fundamentally different from the ones the authors are portraying. And yet, I have been gutted just the same. There are a lot of things to criticise about this game. They do not matter. Join us in the bowl.
