Yeaaaah I wanted to like this game, the premise is very cute and sounded fun on paper, but there’s just so much about it that feels badly implemented. Gathering and examining plants is the best part about this game, it’s everything else that’s the problem. Time passing when you sort is such a weird decision, and from a gameplay perspective really ruins the flow of the whole game. Idk if it was intentional but after clearing the tutorial I decided to spend a day gathering ingredients so the next day I could cook up some things for missions, except that the next day all my sorted ingredients were gone? I want to assume it was a glitch because I hadn’t passed a market day, so I can’t see any reason all my ingredients were gone. It really put me off the game entirely. The tutorial was another issue, most of it was going back and forth to speak to people and pressing a button to examine things. A pet peeve for me j suppose but simply pressing a button on an object for your c...

I really REALLY wanted to like this game. I liked the demo enough that I bought the game when it come out. However, the controls on the steam deck during foraging seem like they need to be tightened up a bit, but that wasn't the deal breaker for me. The deal breaker was the constant running around/fetch quests that it started off with. While I wanted to be foraging, it was constantly just like "Hey, run here, talk to so and so" and without a comprehensive map to find those people it was just aggravating. I guess if you just want to relax and run around an admittedly beautiful world, then it may just be fine for you, but for me I want to actually get into the game play, not run around for hours in areas that all look the same. The system they use for finding the person you're supposed to be looking for is confusing as well. They would do so much better if they just added a feature to the map showing where that NPC is that you need to find, like Grimshire did. Just not for me I guess.

At the moment the game lacks content. There isn't much to do and the map is very small. Core gameplay gets repetitive and boring pretty soon. There are only 3 hearts to go with the NPCs - that should tell you how shallow this version is. I like the idea and hope the game will improve a lot before full release. Pros: Great environment-friendly, vegan-friendly, properly researched educational game idea. Looks pretty and cute. Cons: Limiting the market inventory feels very arbitrary and smartphony. The character basket is already limited and plants "spoil" daily. The number of customers is also limited. Let me sell everything I made if there is someone to buy it, let me stack the same items in the shop. Just lower prices to limit earnings if you must. Drip-feeding content to prolong the game is not an enjoyable experience. I don't begrudge my donation for the development of a good idea, but I would advise to buy this game later when it has more content. It's not worth the mon...

Okay so, I'm a huge fan of pretty environments and like, greenery. I also like cute stuff! If this game leaned more into the actual foraging, environment, and actually using the things you foraged (i.e. more player agency and freedom), I'd be able to look past the issues I have with it. However it doesn't, the gameplay is soulless, boring, and tedious (fetch quests, very restrictive gameplay, etc.). The foraging is linear (every patch has exactly 2 plant types for e.g. and they're always the same ones) and trivial (arguably, I don't think it constantly showing you picture comparisons is fun, I wanna guess for myself and potentially fail before i learn). The "story" and characters are just both simultaneously goofy and one dimensional. I personally found the character creator to be pretty disappointing, of course it has some nice inclusive options, but, y'know it also is just missing things you'd expect to have (like for e.g. a simple ponytail hair option, more eye shapes, lips that do...

I love this game so far. After thousands of hours playing cozy games, this is the first time I have written a review. I want people to know how amazing this game is, and if I convince just one person to give it a go, then I am happy I put in the effort. First, it is super important to remember that this is early access. There are glitches, but I am so impressed with how polished the game feels already. You have to know what you are getting into in order to get everything out of the game that you can. This is truly a cozy game in which time stands still. This game can't (and shouldn't) be rushed. If you are looking for something fast-paced that you can speed run, this game isn't for you. Time progresses when you sort your inventory. Some people do not like that, but I appreciate that it gives me control over when time progresses. I can explore to my heart's content before moving on. I should also note that you really can't hoard resources in this game. You can't stockpile stuff...

The animations (e.g. skipping instead of running) and character creation was far too feminine for me to create a masculine character that somewhat reflected what I wanted.

It's a ton of fetch quests with a story behind it. I'm all for it too as I love everything plants in this game and in real life. One of the first plants you identify is literally growing in my flower beds AND it's safe to eat! Talk about new info for me. It also uses a lot of well known common names for the plants which make recipes easier to look up. Speaking of recipes: This game comes with a companion site that has REAL FOOD RECIPES for what you forage in the wild! It does have a nice disclaimer about foraging and being safe too.

I’ve only played this game for 2 hours but felt compelled to give my very first game review because of those 2 hours alone. I. love. this. game. Out and About is almost everything I’ve always wanted and hadn’t been able to find. The sound design, the graphics, the detail of the plants, and the real life information are incredible. I absolutely love getting to know the scientific side and getting to know real life uses while being encouraged to identify plants IRL! The only thing I wish for (so far) is that this game had even more! Obviously this is for plants and sustainability and appreciation of nature, and the game already accomplishes that in early access - but I would love, love, love to maybe one day see it evolve or have additional games made that do the same thing for insects, fish, etc. I think that would be really cool in this style and with neat information! It would be super cool all in one game, but! As it stands this game gives me everything and more with th...

Such an adorable game! I love learning about foraging all kinds of different plants and mushrooms The art-style is cute, the world is magical and the music is delightful. The progression is satisfying when you unlock a new path or area. I can tell a lot of love was put into this game Going forward, I think cooking mini-games should be added (or maybe an option to cook more than one dish at a time), the cooking cut-scenes get repetitive after a while. Oh and the town feels a bit lifeless, especially since you can only talk to npcs when they have quests for you Otherwise totally recommend this cozy game :D
