I haven't finished Somerville yet (I will, it's short), but it's already clearly a cut below Limbo, Inside, Planet of Lana, and Cocoon. There are so many little irritating elements, which is hard to overlook in a game with such an elegant design. You move, interact with items, and activate this alien power. For starters, the perspective does the design no favors. I feel like I'm constantly stumbling into walls or squinting at the screen to find out what is interactive. If you're going to be more complicated than 2D sidescroller, it has to work. Secondly, while I understand the characters are silent, there are some serious narrative missteps. In the intro, the toddler is crying and the father just sleeps through it. Huh? When the dad "dies" (in the intro, not a spoiler), the wife barely reacts. When the dad wakes to find his wife and child missing, he doesn't emote in any way shape or form. The body language is wrong. Instead of being sneaky or terrified or looking around with an...

I really enjoyed this one the more I played of it. I really liked the ending and there were several surprise things that I loved about it. Many things were very well done, the story was pretty decent but also vague (which is good in my opinion). There's a lot of attention to detail with some things throughout the game/story, little extras that I appreciated, however there was a lot that could have needed some work too. A lot of the movement felt a bit awkward, and it was hard to get into some spots at times, making me think it was the wrong way to go, or impossible to go that certain way. It can be hard to target certain things too, making you think you cant interact with it, but others are very easy to do, it's not super consistent, but for the most part works well enough. Also, this isn't really a big complaint, as this is kind of the norm for a game like this, but the character doesn't have a run option, which makes exploring certain areas a bit tedious since you cant just qui...
I would have loved to play this game, because the aesthetics look really unique and beautiful as well as the storyline and sound design is amazing. However, the gameplay is extremely slow, you don't understand where and when you have to do an action and the mechanics are too difficult for a beginning game. It doesn't make you want to stay and you get bored trying. It's a shame, I refunded the game.
This game had insane potential, it really did, but it just falls short on multiple fronts.
The Gameplay
While this genre usually doesn't offer much gameplay other than puzzles and a bit of platforming, this game in particular was very lacking in this aspect. Most of the game boils down to walking around and ocasionally interacting with an object to open the way, while there are some good puzzles in the mix, most of them feel like filler (it also doesn't help that the main character walks like a grandpa). Even in the action sequences, you just follow a path on a mostly straight line until it is over and with how slow the character is, no tension arises.
The Story
While the concept of an alien invasion is really good, the game doesn't do anything with it. For most of the game, all you see of them is an ocasional searching light and
searcher hounds
. Unless hidden behind an alternative ending, you never figure out their motive and for most of the g...

Kinda confusion
The most underrated gem on Steam!
Short but really good
art style and sound design are pretty awesome. puzzles are ok. the story is kind of confusing, but still interesting.
Fantastic shorty little story, beautiful to look at and hear. My only real gripe is the ending, The last puzzle is not clear at all, it hints at things throughout the game but you're never really 'tested' on it until the end.
