About the Game

Welcome... to Amber Isle! A shop management/social sim set in a quaint, friendly world of prehistoric animal islanders called Paleofolk!

You’re tasked with running Amber Isle’s only shop. Gather, craft and sell items to meet the needs of your diverse Paleofolk customers. Does your brachiosaur buddy need a canvas as long as his neck? Maybe your microraptor amigo needs a mini-sized chair? Perhaps even some water-proof paper for a plesiosaur in peril? Different customers also have different needs, behaviours and preferences to learn. Haggle, pawn, and counter-offer your way to the top of the Shop Rankings! It’s up to you to run a successful shop to bring Amber Isle back from the brink of fossilisation!

Name, customise and run your shop your way! Use your profits to unlock new shop decor, walls, floors and more. As your shop gains popularity, plan your layout wisely, expand your floorspace and make your shop more efficient.

Rebuild the island!

You can also use your shop profits to help rebuild the island and unlock new areas. Decorate with paths, foliage, and amenities to make Amber Isle an attractive destination. Only then will our Paleofolk pals consider packing up and moving in permanently!

Paleofolk come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and species- it’s not just dinosaurs! There’s Ice Age mammals, Permian amphibians, marine life, invertebrates, and more! Amber Isle has 48 different Paleofolk to befriend, all with unique personalities, preferences, dialogue, and quests.

Get closer to Paleofolk by hanging out with them and fulfilling their requests. As your friendship grows, Paleofolk will share new upgrades and recipes with you. With your help, they can even build their own stalls, cafes, gardens, and communal areas on Amber Isle!

Express your penchant for the prehistoric by designing your very own Paleofolk! Change your clothes, crests, colours, and more in our character customiser! Pick from 5 body presets; Small Herbivore, Large Herbivore, Raptor, Large Theropod and Mammal. What type of Paleofolk will you be?

The Story So Far…

Amber Isle is down to its last remaining residents; the grumpy iguanodon Mayor Clawsworth, the peppy pteranodon courier Maple, and the mega-keen megalosaurus intern Adi. In a last-ditch attempt to revitalise Amber Isle, Mayor Clawsworth reluctantly agrees to let you open a shop. During your adventure, you’ll learn more about your new friends, the history of the island and how exactly it fell into disrepair…

So, what are you waiting for!?

Let's stock the shelves and dust the displays, because it's almost opening time for your brand new adventure on Amber Isle!
Introduction:
Amber Isle is a casual management game with a story, a shop you fill with crafted oddities, and sell to cute characters. Sadly plentiful bugs visually and game breaking elements are present. Let's descend into madness!
Character customization:
5 / 5 Absolutely crazy! The options are so vast and in-depth, and yet... it feels like EVERY focus was there, and only there. The rest this game has to offer is shallow in comparison!
Tutorial:
1 / 5 Talk talk talk, the NPCs drank too much YAPPUCCINO! You're graced with a few mechanics over the span of what felt like 14-16 in-game days? Afterwards you can do as you please. It's just too slow to complete for my liking. It really felt you were on a short leash all the time. Going out for a walk to pee on a tree, the next day you'll learn there are more trees you can pee on...
Main quest:
2 / 5 Typical. In a nutshell: Unlock island biomes, tyrant company seeks island's riches, save island. ...

Art is cute. It has a lot of really, really annoying / downright game-breaking glitches though. Buy with caution

I made a new game after not playing for months and keep getting soft locked with different things. First while crafting for the first time I exit the craft bench menu and find myself outside where I was before I named the shop? It refused to let me into the shop even though that's where I had to be but thankfully I was able to activate the dialogue and name my shop even though I just did?? After that I can't exit any menu I open like clicking the X or holding the ESC key doesn't work. I'm just nervous to play and get invested if I'm going to keep getting soft locked and have to use the task manager to close the game each time. Everything about it is so cute tho :(

You could buy this game. You could start falling in love with some of the paleofolk. You could place homes for each little character. You could connect their houses to bridges and entrances with lovely paths and diverse plants. (You could find many hours of peace in making bamboo-lined paths up a mountain, and conifer-lined paths through a forest, and cactus-lined paths through a desert, and fern-lined paths through a swamp, and palm-lined paths across a beach … I do love building a beautiful path.) But, you could also get to a point where crafting progression chokes up and stops unlocking new recipes. You could accumulate an inventory full of high-end materials that you can’t use (gold, silver, etc) because you can only craft towels and chairs and other low-end items. You could file a ticket with no hopes that it might be resolved. So, maybe wait until some bugs are patched before you purchase.

i would love to say this game is phenomenal, but the more you play, the more glaring the issues become. there are quite a few bugs, and many features are in need of quality of life updates, but i am unsure if such are on the board, as the last update was in december 2024 (as of writing this) that being said, i still do very much enjoy it, and the bugs aren't particularly game breaking. more of a minor annoyance, and they don't hinder me or my enjoyment of the game personally. as a huge paleontology nerd, the characters mean so much to me, and i'm utterly in love with the setting and story. this has very much become a comfort game for me. i do hope that eventually some of the bugs will be fixed, and that this game receives some more polish, as i sincerely believe that is all it needs to truly shine. it's a lovely take on chill town management and crafting games, and it's refreshing to see more cutesy takes on dinosaurs in videogames. i would be sad to see such a promising game be left...

When I first saw my friend stream this game it was love at first sight. This is my first time playing a store management game and at first I was worried I wouldn't like the gameplay, but I quickly got a hang of the bartering system. Every character has their charms and I'm excited to meet every one of them. My main critique is the crafting UI. In the top right corner of each item is a number displaying the amount of said item that you have on hand. My issue is that the color of the background and the color of the number are way too close to each other. I have to squint or lean closer to my monitor at times just to see how much of a given item I have. Besides that I am a big fan of this game and I am excited to see what Ambertail Games does in the future :)

This game has a lot of charm to it. The characters are all well designed, have unique personalities and gimmicks, as well as cute intertwined stories. The models are well made, despite the occasional visual bug, and the style is bright but not an eyesore. As for game play, it is simple and not punishing, meaning you can take your time and make mistakes to learn how to better your shop. There are some bugs that can interrupt game play significantly though. Sometimes sitting in certain chairs locks your game, sometimes data wont save properly, and sometimes the camera will freak out. I let these slide due to the indie nature of it, but i hope so see these fixed.

Super cute little cozy game. It's like Animal Crossing but with dinosaurs. Highly recommend to anyone who really loves cozy games with a bit more structure.
