Likes -AMAZING graphics. -Music is cool, more rockin' than the first Valfaris. I think I prefer the more low key almost ambient metal of the first game, but this is cool too. -Meleeing projectiles is fun and offers a good defensive option. -Bosses are big and awesome again. -Finding secrets fun. There's no wandering around exploration, you just hit a little side path, grab the secret and come right back. That's good. -Slightly less weapons than the first game, easier to upgrade weapons. -I know its a different genre, but the mechanics were simplified from Valfaris 1, and I like that. Criticism -I don't like meleeing to regain my ammo. Limited ammo in a shmup is limiting my fun. Me simple gamer. Me want hold fire button entire game. Forcing me to balance melee and shooting causes a weird mechanic of memorizing which enemies to melee and when to save ammo, or getting right in the face of a boss and meleeing until you regain some ammo. -Just like the Valfaris 1 there is a visibility prob...

I was drawn to Slain and Valfaris in the first place due to the nice pixel art. So I was a bit sceptical about the "new" polygonal style. At the end I am not disappointed - the visual style has its own charm, the gameplay is fun and weapon handling very satisfying. Some bosses took a few tries, but the challenges are always fair and doable with some practice. I'm looking forward to experience more of this exciting universe in Slain 2!

A truly exceptional game that keeps getting better, more chaotic and more creative the further you get into it and ends on a very high note. Steel Mantis has truly outdone themselves this time and has become one of my favourite developers. Some highlights: - The game utilizes perspectives/camera angles to great effect to make some scenes really stand out. - The boss fights are really well done, and one of them in particular is on a level of its own, even when compared to most other games I have played. - The game feels fair and responsive. Whenever I died I almost always thought "I suck" versus "That was BS". - The progression feels satisfying and the weapons are varied. - The themes/presentation/aesthetics, especially towards the end, are very interesting with different inspirations creatively combined. I also experienced zero bugs.
