I'm a big fan of games where your main objective is to finish collections, and that's the entire premise of this game. The music is pleasant, the critters are cute, the art is nice, and the game loop is simple but engaging. I've started a fresh file with each major update, and I'm still not bored of playing in early game. There's no over long tutorial or a lot of cut-scenes. You can pretty much jump right into playing. As I'm writing this review, it will be the first time I've played the game into the second year, and there are still critters and plants I haven't found yet.
I'm not sure what will happen once my research is finished. The NPCs and Romances are apparently still going to be built up, but right now they're considered complete. Daily dialogue is a little lacking, but the NPCs definitely aren't the main focus of this game for me so I don't feel like anything is lacking right now. I won't be too disappointed if it's mostly a background feature in the end, and getting to kn...

The reviews had me hesitant, but I've ended up enjoying this game! A more simplified Stardew (kind of?). The stuff you do is more complex with things like not being able to plant and grow things until you research them first, but I feel there's less to do overall.
-The townsfolk are very shallow and have practically no depth, but I still like the orc man enough to romance.
-I'm only in Autumn of year 1 and I'm already sorta OP. Everything's automated, I've finished every puzzle except for the one that requires a winter item, I've already got the Green House and the first house upgrade. All my tools are gold.
-The quest system is sort of pointless to me because you get like 3 quests in the beginning and no more after that lol
Very fun game if you like to just run around and worry about yourself lol

I wish I loved this game more, but it is kind of frustrating and stressful more than anything.
What I loved:
- The research mechanic is what makes this game unqiue and it's a lot of fun!
- Animals have perks that help you when you have them follow you.
- There is a huge variety of flowers, crops and animals to research and grow or keep!
- I loved that the plants have specific growing requirements that you have to fulfill.
- Animals have traits, that if fulfilled will make them happier quicker.
- There is "shiny" versions of the animals, which are fun to find and collect.
What made it frustrating:
- The days are very short and there is a ton of stuff to do. I could barely keep up with taking care of my animals and my little farm (even once I got a few sprinklers). And than on top of that, there is the research, the villagers, fishing, caves to explore etc. Automations are very expensive and energy drains very fast.
So, while it's nice that there is a variety of things to do, so it d...

This game is really really cute and cozy. I see it as a stardew x pokemon with a focus on collections, which I personally enjoyed the most. I'm an overachiever so I pretty much did everything I could in the game except the heart events that give me trouble. I can't seem to trigger some of them.
The dev has been on top of it and is taking notes of our suggestions so I will be coming back once there are updates.
I'm really hoping for some kind of expansion with new crops, new creatures, etc.
I would also reaaaaaaaaally love to have collections/books/research for everything else! Ores, gems, dishes, bugs, etc!

Great game, distinctly different from the other farming sims through the emphasis on research and checking out every plant and animal. Crafting, mining and farming for profit are still there (and they are nicely done), but are means to the end - collecting all the data about different species you can encounter, which is a huge plus from me - it's a nice spin for farming sims to keep things fresh.

I wish all research was this enjoyable!
Research Story starts out looking like an average farm sim, but it soon goes much deeper into the plants, animals, research, and community of Shimmerbrook. There's still a race against the inevitable march of time, but it feels like you can take it at your own pace. There are even options to slow down time or ignore stamina, so you can tailor the game to your own taste and preferred level of chill. Your colleagues will publish reports which will help you learn how systems and aspects of the game work, and everything you research is recorded in a journal to which you have access at all times, along with information about the townsfolk, a handy calendar, and tutorials you've viewed. The game is very well documented and it's difficult to truly get lost and not know what to do next.
As you publish the results of your research, you'll see evidence that your work is aiding the community and that is deeply satisfying.

I bought this game because I'm a farming simulators lover, but this game is not purely a farming simulator but one with its unique story arc, perks and charm! So obsessed as each in game day is packed with new findings and surprises. I chose the longest day so after 30 hours I'm only a few days into autumn, so there truly is a lot to do. The characters are sweet, and I love the dates. I still find the visuals of characters a bit divided, but that's not affecting my love for this game.
