From the developer/publisher team behind 'Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom' comes a 'AA' take on the Metroid Prime formula. If you've played Prime 2 or Fusion then the basic concepts here (re: story and setting) will be immediately familiar, but the game does a good job of adding it's own ideas. As well as integrating melee combat, the game does other things to shake up the gameplay and keep things fresh (without spoiling too much, it's to do with the way that you gain, lose, and re-gain powers between levels). I think the gameplay is very good so far. Personal tastes will vary, but at the very least I recommend playing up to the 'Hidden Oasis' level because it begins with an enemy encounter that convinced me that this would be worth playing to the end. The game is pretty GPU-intensive, which can affect the framerate. Even in 2K resolution I had to drop a few settings to try and maintain 60fps. However, the occasional framerate drops are not game-breaking (unless you're really sen...

About This Game
A mission that’s expected to be your last:
Planet Vandermire, the ancestral home of the extinct “Magna” species, is suspected to be the source of the ever expanding Corruption; a universal threat to all life in the universe. Alex is “lucky” number 13 of volunteering Space Crusaders, ready to give their life in deadly solo-expeditions on the planet's surface. Mission “Exodus” empowers individuals with a unique high technology AI suit in order to gather as much information as possible, before falling to the Corruption. It is hoped that with each attempt, scientists can increase the time of survival on the surface and find a solution to contain the Corruption.
Collect alien morphs to expand your abilities:
While Alex explores the planet, every enemy encounter can change your experience! By absorbing alien "morphs", you gather new moves and powers that can literally turn the world upside down.
Improve your unique AI-powered suit:
Upgrade your suit powers and maximise weapon impact, life support and combat agility. The high tech suit includes an AI voice that will help Alex on her journey.
Ranged weapons and melee combat:
Use your most powerful ranged weapons and combine them with fast close combat moves. It's a breeze to switch between both.
Explore Vandermire:
This foreign planet is full of varied biomes. Scout every corner of this beautiful but dangerous alien world in order to collect more information about the origins of the Corruption.

User Reviews
I really really tried to love Otherskin. The visuals and the lighting are gorgeous, the combat is somewhat fun and the world design is genuinely sublime. The various locations you visit are truly wonderfully made with new abilities and powers to match. In this, the game is incredible and if this was where the review ended, then I would give it a thumbs up. UNFORTUNATELY. A: The developers told a fib. They claimed it was 15 hours long in a casual playthrough, my casual playthrough was 6 hours and that was with repeatedly having to redo sections due to bugs. B: The bugs in this game are HORRENDOUS. From soft-locks, randomly gaining immortality, being flung off the map and checkpoints not loading properly and dropping you off the map (that one was fun), it's something that a dedicated QA individual could have dug up and reported for fixing very quickly. These aren't bugs that you are unlikely to encounter, these are frequent issues you WILL encounter and they can and will soft lock yo...
Hey, devs, have you tried to play it with keyboard and mouse and not on 5090 in 1024x768 with DLSS on performance? We still have 8GB videocards, you know. Can't see any changes from the demo with frame loss and stuttering. Fix your shait please.
The game's description describes perfectly what the game is about and is very fun. Keep expectations reasonable and you will see that this is a great game. I've also had no real noteworthy performance issues.
Obviously with 2 hours of gameplay so far I can't give a detailed review. But I'm going to update my review as I keep progress in the game. I've been playing the Demo and was hyped for it over the past few days. If I had to compare the game to something, "Control" get's very close to it but the game does a good job of adding it's own features. The only massive negative on my end but then again; it's day 1 of release is performance and certain settings. Motion blur? I'm above recommended by far but I can't seem to get stable FPS in a lot of the areas even with mid-settings. It feels laggy and slow, which makes combat unfun. Prolly the to be expected UE5 issues, can only hope for some improvements in optimisation. But so far, I definitely recommend it.
Could use some refining of the gameplay mechanics. To be expected for a day 1.
A good metroidvania with a wide variety of abilities and good levels. A variety of enemies. Now about the cons, the same old story, but optimization should be improved if possible. Enemies are killed pretty quickly, I didn't encounter any bosses. P.S. I encountered a bug on the orbital docks, I couldn't finish off the big eye, the solution was to kill the small eyes first, then kill the enemies. Positive feedback for being a metroidvania with hopes for improvements in the game
Otherskin is a fun third-person Metroid-like game that doesn't shy away from blending genres to create a satisfying and fun adventure. When you're done with the intro, you are taken to an area called Reverse Falls. This is where the real fun begins. The game has fun exploration rarely seen in this type of games today and at times it felt like I could have been playing a Jedi Knight game in the most positive way. I wish there were more games like this! The game looks absolutely spectacular, especially in the latter areas. There are some bugs in the game, but this is an AA-production and it is justified in the games price tag in my opinion. The game is well worth the asking price. I can highly recommend this for all the 3rd person shooter or adventure games fans.
This game is a lot of fun, i enjoy the themes and the gameplay. Highly reccomend. The dev team is very attentive and involved on the discord.
The story is very intriguing so far. The game is beautiful with wonderfully crafted environments. The hub world that connects the various areas is stunning. The performance could be better and does need optimization. I've found that using DLSS helps as well as lowering shadows, shading, and effects. The combat is pretty straightforward. I like that each area makes use of the abilities you get. Each enemy also has their own weaknesses and strengths. The health pool you start with is limited but that is quickly alleviated. The checkpoint system is very forgiving and gets you back in the game quickly. I also wanted to point out about the user-defined tag of metroidvania which doesn't fit Otherskin. There are abilities, there are upgrades, and there is some collecting. There are 3D metroidvanias but this is not a metroidvania and that is okay. It is a great third-person action adventure game nonetheless.
